Well Sunday was a fun day with lots of good eatin', games and a hiking adventure down to Stone Mountain Park that ended in a slippery slide down a small waterfall. We started the day with a live video worship service from our now home church in Florida and they are bringing several youths to the mountain here in N.C. for a camp as I write. The weather has been perfect and even yesterday we had some mist and fog which kept the temps down making it great for our down off the mountain adventure.
We had another great mountain breakfast with French toast using an awesome raisin bread along with sausage patties cooked outside on the grill to start the day. The kiddos had a marvelous time chasing butterflies and bugs as they played outside after breakfast. The washing machine and dryer were in constant action through out the day along with the golf cart rides were evident as well through out the day and evening. After a lunch of leftovers and deli meats the Anderson's and Perry's arrived and we convoyed down off the mountain to the stone mountain state park for an adventure. We decided to take the more moderate hike with 6 kiddos and an infant in a chest pack out to Wolf Rock. Well this was the first time any of us had ever hiked this mile and half up hill climb to the area of the mountain which resembled the main dome. It was a nice hike and many of us worked up a good sweat. Bobby and I found an area where many years ago I knew of a small waterfall where kids were sliding down the face of the rocks into 3-4 foot deep pool. Wow what a fun time as we did the slide.
It was the perfect ending for the hike as we walked from the lower falls parking lot to this slide area. Everyone took several trips down the waterfalls except for Nancy and Amy. The water was deliciously cold and clear. Leelee also played in the shallow water and was quite happy playing in the cold refreshing water. There were a couple other folks sliding down as well. It was going on 6'ish before we started supper which was a perfect grilled New York steak along with a chimcuri sauce made from fresh parsley all of which was prepared by chef Bobby. We added left over sides of pasta salad, baked beans and of course dips and salsa as well.
We did a huge fire and the kiddos had smores and played outside until after 9 then it was bath time and a movie with pop corn for them while we adults played a game of Bauderdash until nearly midnight. The Anderson's and Perry's had to make the 30 minute drive to the other side of Sparta out to the Bald Knob Farm House where they are staying and where we will have supper this evening and then head to Sparta for the fireworks. I must say we have had very little down time but its been so fun making memories for the family and with our friends, LATER
