Well we are back in the rainy season once again with down pours that cause gully washers and we had another one yesterday afternoon. I'm surprised we aren't having mud slides as the ground is that soaked. Thankfully the gardens are on a slant as they do drain after each hard rain.
I started the day out with my usual routines of up before 6, the posting of this ramble and then some quiet time both here in the cabin and on my solo hike to the top of the mountain. It was beautiful on top of the mountain with tons of sunshine so when I got back I put in a load of sheets and then hung them out to dry, but the sun soon became shaded by clouds and I eventually took them off the line when we headed out to town and finished drying them in the dryer. The forecast is for this kind of weather all week. At least its not into the upper 80's but we still keep the a/c on due to the moisture in the air.
I piddled around the cabin checking on the gardens and noticed tons of small green tomato's, jalapeno's are starting to produce as well are the leafy greens. I picked a mess of beet greens, collards and some kale to add to the store bought lettuces for our salads. I transplanted another couple volunteer tomato plants into the garden from the compose pile so we should have plenty of fruit up until frost hits in October. The cukes and squashes are producing but not nearly as quick as I would like due to the soggy circle drive where I have them planted. I think they are getting too much rain and its not drying out quickly enough due to the shade, oh well.
The blue berries are slowly starting to turn so we should have a decent crop along with neighbor Donnie's bush. I checked on it and they are getting a lot more sun and I think they will soon be ready for picking. I noticed some type of worms on the branches and they are eating away the leaves but at least they are in clusters so I just break off the branch they are on and send them with my shoe, oh well.
We made several stops in Sparta as I need to pick up some library books after a stop at the garbage dump. We had lunch at the Pizzeria and then a stop at Food Lion and the produce stand before getting back at the cabin. I read until supper time then watched the Ray's lose again to the Birds and then it was shower time and some horizontal lab, LATER
