Saturday Morning Sept 7th

Well Friday was a fun day with no real projects or work related activities except for traveling back to Galax, Va. for shopping at Lowes and the Walmart for a work related job coming up today (sat) and next week with liming the yards. It was a cool morning to start with temps right round 60 degrees but the strong breeze made it feel even cooler and we had the breeze most all day.

I started the day much the usual with a 6'ish roll out to my cup of hot green tea that I used to wash down my daily Nutrilite vitamins and supplements and then posted this ramble. Afterwards I spent some quiet time with my Creator in humble thanks for my many blessings and then lifted up several for consideration by name for comfort and healing and especially those harmed by this hurricane Dorian. It seems the east coast of N.C. got a taste of the storm but nothing like the Bahamas. We in Florida once again dodged this monster storm of destruction that took so many lives.

We got ready to head out to Galax around 10'ish as I wanted a hair cut and then to Lowes for some of the preservative for my recently pressure washed deck and of course Nancy always needs something from Walmart. We decided to eat one of those ready made pizza's from Little Caesar's which we use to do monthly back when. When the kids were little we got one every Friday when I was off from work and they had the best flavor in the sauce. It's still rather inexpensive and we sat and ate in the truck as we brought drinks with us. It was right out of the oven and loaded with pepperoni's, delicious just like old times.

After lunch I dropped Nancy off at Walmart and headed to Lowes which is just a half mile up the road. I loaded up 10 bags of pelletized lime as they give you contractors prices with 10 or more and then a 5 gal can of Valspar wood preservative to do the deck. The porches are under roof so I don't do anything with them but the deck collects snow, ice, pollen, mildew and mold so every couple years I pressure wash it and reapply the preservative. I use to use Thompson water sealer but decided on a different brand due to how great the boards on the cabin look after two years using a cedar stain by Valspar. If this preservative is as good as the stain then I will be thrilled. We got back to the cabin around 2'ish and then chilled until 4'ish when we took off on a hike to the top of the mountain. It was just such a pleasant hike with temps in the 70's and gentle breeze and no humidity. We stopped and chatted with Billy on top for a few as he just got back after a 4 day vacation off the mountain.

We loaded up some cucumbers for the Tracy's as I picked 7 from the vines before heading to town. I've noticed since the vines have started o turn yellow the cukes are smaller and not as formed as at first but I still have several small nubbins on the vine and I'm watering them daily. I did pick another couple small cherry type tomato's which now makes 4 so far. The plants are loaded so I should have plenty to share eventually if they ripen before the snow falls. I did harvest a nice mess of kale and Swiss chard but the deer keep the beets greens eaten off at ground level. I have several lettuce seedlings to transplant this morning into the garden.

We got ready and headed out around 5'ish for the Music on the Main in Sparta. We met up with several at the Muddy Creek Cafe for supper. Since I had pizza for lunch I thought I would try one of their Chopped salads. It was nothing to write home about but Nancy had the club sandwich with fries of which I helper her eat since she shared an appetizer of fried cauliflower with Kathryn. Her sandwich was good. We headed out to walk around main street which was blocked off for this event which was the last one for this season. The headliner started at 8 so we sat up our folding chairs in front of the courthouse and then walked around visiting several other groups who were playing in and in front of business on the main. Big Daddy Love was the headliner and while they were good we decided around 9 we had heard enough then headed out for the cabin. The breeze made it feel chilly

despite the temps in the low 70's. This is a great social event for the town and we mingled and visited with several we hadn't seen much of during the summer.

It was going on 10'ish when we got back on the hill and I was ready for a hot shower and then I checked the ball scores and the Ray's won again over the Jay's. We now have the first wild card slot for the playoff's which will be coming up soon later this month. Well that was about it for Friday, LATER
