Saturday Morning Oct 24th

Well Friday we were up early for a change as we had to be in Winston Salem at 8:30 for our "mountain mom" Helen. It was 5'ish when the alarm went off but I'm use to getting up early but the last several days have found me sleeping in until 7'ish, oh well. The trip down the mountain was uneventful except for the detour in Elkin around the bridge work which seems to have been going on for years. Anyhow we made it just with a few minutes to spare. It seems we have to go back again this Wednesday for another appointment for her since this Covid issue has changed their one day policy.

I did some shopping while she and Nancy did the dental appointment at Sams and Home depot. I filled up with cheap gas at 1.73 which is the lowest I've seen all summer. I loaded up paper products so we would have plenty for next summer as well as our Christmas vacation here in the mountains with Bobby's family for about 2 weeks. This will be our first Christmas in the mountains and the kids are hoping for some snow which would be great except for a blizzard style event. We stopped in Jonesville just before heading up the mountain at the Cracker Barrel for a delicious lunch.

We were back at the cabin around 1'ish after dropping Helen off at her place. I did a power hike to the top and then we took a late afternoon hike together. We saw the gal who bought John and Shirley place and chatted for quite a spell with her. Its seems she has a huge 100+acre farm in upper West Virginia and will head back there as well the day day we leave for Florida. She has never been married and has no siblings and lives with two small dogs. She seemed to enjoy our visit as she doesn't know many folks in this area and some aren't too pleased with the fence she put up next to her cabin. Most think it's an eyesore and I must agree but she feels better now that she has the security of not backing off the steep bank where she normally parks.

We stopped briefly and chatted with Carol who lives next door to the new house being built. She and Tommy only visit occasionally as he is having some health issues. They both are heavy smokers which could be the reason. Since we had such a large lunch we decided to make guacamole, salsa and dip with chips for our supper. Today, Saturday I'm picking up our "mountain mom" and frying up the fresh caught bass from her pond for supper. Well the Ray's lost their game last night as their really good pitcher got beat up on by the Dodgers. They are now down 2-1 in games and play again tonight. Lets hope they win, LATER

This is a painting sister Dee made for the cabin.
