Friday Morning and it's in the 30's.

Well Thursday was rather chilly to start the day as the strong wind made the 40's feel even colder; however we did have lots of sunshine so it wasn't a depressing cold day. I started the day much the usual with a 6'ish roll out and after my routines and a few quiet moments I bundled up for the cold ride to the rec on my bike for some 2 hours of pickle ball. I got a workout before I got to the rec bucking that strong cold headwind out of the north. We had 3 courts in action with only A players but one feller who is starting to improve rather well. By the end of 2 hours I had a soaked shirt and was worn out. I surely will miss today's play as it's grand parents day at Ava and Sam's school.

After the workout I headed home in the headwind for most of the ride as I had to stand up pedaling for most of the way. The winds seemed even stronger than my earlier ride. We did reach the middle 50's by late afternoon but the heat ran occasionally during the day. I hand watered the gardens and fixed a ridge pole so that I could cover my tomato plants over night with old blankets and sheets. The fore cast is for a hard freeze north of us and a possible freeze for our area. I think the only things that will be susceptible to the cold is the tomato's and beans. Everything else loves the cold except maybe the peppers and they are sheltered next to the fence.

No one came for lunch so we had a salad and then I settled into to some paperwork and read the rest of the day until it was time to pick up GG and bring her for supper. She loves Swiss chard so I cut a huge bunch and got it ready for the skillet where we sauteed it with just a little water. It cooks down to about 1/5 its normal size, much like fresh spinach cooks down. Wow, this is a delicious green and so tender with a delicate flavor. It is one of our favorite greens as well and it accompanied a grilled bone in pork chop loaded with Canadians best seasonings and fresh rosemary. We had yellow rice as well. Well we licked the platter clean and after the clean up we settled into the news and then Nancy took GG home.

We watched the news until the Idol Show and then I headed for the showers and then curled up with a new book by author George Pelecanos. I want to read all of his books as he keeps your interests with lots of at times mundane scenarios but true to life situations that usually result in life or death decisions, oh well I'm not sure if that makes sense but he is a street people person which mainly takes place in the D.C. town and area. I'm basically a country person but do find the writings about the big city attention holding. He even mentions my hometown and county so maybe that's why I find his work intriguing as I can relate somewhat. It wasn't long until 11'ish rolled around and so I slipped between the flannel sheets which were so comfy and warm on this cold evening, LATER
