Thursday Morning

Well Wednesday was a little on the warm side and by late evening the sky had built to some angry looking black clouds with a few thunder booms. We headed out to the mailbox after supper and the cleanup on the golf cart. We stopped and chatted with the Hudson's on the way out as they were heading in the road and then again with Shirley on the way back in from the mailbox. Shirley asked if we heard all the dogs barking last night and of course we hear neighbor Pam's dog almost every night. She mentioned she was awakened by a very clear yell or a scream like noise from either a bobcat or a panther during the night and that set off the dogs to barking. Even the Hudson's mentioned the dogs barking when we first chatted with them;but neither we nor they heard the scream like noise. Shirley also mentioned she heard meowing sounds like a small kitten down by the creek that runs underneath their front deck and then saw the footprints in the sand the next morning. We took a moment despite the threat of a storm coming to look at the paw prints in the mud along the creek bank and sure enough I think it's a bobcat as a panther has much larger paws.

Anyhow back to the storm threat as it blew around us and dropped no rain except for maybe a couple dozen drops as we sure could use a little of the wet stuff that has plagued Florida with the past 3 weeks, Oh well! The morning was much the usual for me as I rolled out around 6'ish. Nancy was enjoying her retirement as she finally emerged from the bedroom around 8'ish. We did our morning routines as I had my blog written, spent a few quiet minutes and was checking on the world news by the time she had awakened. I always or try to give our "mountain mom" Helen a jingle each morning and see what she has accomplished the day before and her plans for the up coming day. She is an early riser like myself.

I fixed some eggs and grits for a change for breakfast then headed out to check on the gardens for any deer damage. Knock on wood as we have escaped another night of them foraging on my veggies. I decided I wanted to spread those burnt brush pile ashes onto the backwoods yard as it's supposed to be good for helping to control the growth of moss. I hauled several loads of the shes and spread them by hand. The sawing down of several trees last summer has helped to get extra sunlight into the area but I still have some moss covered areas and this Fall I'm getting a truck load of lime to really help with changing the PH of the soil to more alkaline.

That chore kept me busy until just before lunchtime so we took off on our hike to the top of the mountain. We saw no one until we got to the Browning's and then we stopped and chatted for a few as Joe was working on his recently cleared area which he wants to turn into a garden/park. We marveled at Jetta's veggie garden as her tomato's are coming in and on one plant she had nearly a dozen ripening fruit, yikes and these plants were so small to be producing such an abundance. She used heirloom organic seeds and they sure are making a difference with their producing. I asked her to save me a couple seeds from the next tomato she cuts into. They aren't real huge in size but just such and abundance. I want to see if I can grow them from seed as well. My tomatoes are all still green and now I'm getting a fungus on my 1/2 runner beans as I have been watering them with the hose and that seems to be the cause of this spotted rust like blemish. I googled the cause and it seems I've been watering too much and the wrong way. I should only hand water around the roots and not on the plant. I seem to remember this from a couple years back but forgot as the bean plants were so healthy and still are all except for the beans which don't look good, oh well you would think I would learn from the past.

We sat around and read after lunch as it got to be one of our warmest day's this summer with high humidity. I finished another non fiction book written about several murders that occurred back in the 80's in Fall Creek, Ma. The infamous town where Lizzie Borden whacked her parents. We both need to get to the library for some new reads as we head in to town today for supper at Becca Backwoods Bean Cafe. She has a pizza special on Thursday evening which happens to be my 30th year of celebrating my birthday of 39 years, yikes where did that time go?? We will also pickup some baked goodies to take with us as we travel this weekend for a family reunion in northern Virginia.

Well that's about it on the home front but the world news is rather dim and depressing as this potus is ridiculing the populace for failing to honor his wishes that we should agree to the treaty " that gives Iran the means to built a nuclear weapon" so they can wipe Israel and US(A) off the globe. I sure hope America awakens to what he and his mission to change us fundamentally is all about. Wow are we ever in trouble militarily, socially and economically. We see the change and it's not good for America. I often wonder why this potus hates good race relations, the police and our military who keep us safe from those who want to wipe us off the map and wants to release criminals and illegals into the populace to kill and hurt the innocent. Has anyone ever given that a thought? He breaks all of laws or refuses to uphold all of the laws that he doesn't like or am I just imagining that,  LATER
