Well Tuesday was another work day despite it being quite cool, damp and no sunshine. I donned a long sleeve and a flannel shirt to start the day and Nancy had the faux fireplace on which gives off some heat and keeps it cozy and in the evening after supper and the cleanup we lost our power for a couple hours while sitting at the table playing hand, knee and foot. I was getting whupped in the second phase so maybe it was a blessing we lost power and I didn't lose again.
I started the day with my usual 6'ish rollout to my routines that begin with some quiet times to honor my lord, Jesus, give thanks for another day and to lift up several by name for comfort and healing, all seem to be holding with this post. I headed out to stretch on the back porch before doing my early morning walk around the property checking on the gardens for any deer damage. I found no deer damage but did find several of those large green horned worms eating on my tomato and jalapeno peppers. I dispatched them with my boots and one had several small white larvae which I also dispatched. They had nearly stripped on pepper plant and had even eaten part of a pepper, wow. I now have a couple large tomato's starting to turn finally. We just haven't had any sunshine for several days now and the temps have been down in the 50's to start the day and stays in the 60's with this cloud cover and overcast skies and the threat of rain, oh well. It sure feels like and early Fall.
After a breakfast of oatmeal with a banana, cinnamon, honey and pecans I headed down the driveway with the shrub clippers to clear out some of the over hanging brush and straighten out the driveway from the brush which grows inward. That kept me busy for an hour or so and then I hauled a couple loads of brush and debris to the burn pile. I'll wait until the yellow squash is done before burning or maybe until Fall as last time I burned it singed the grasses along that patch. I still have a couple egg plants one of which is setting a fruit and now some dill sprouts coming up from the area where I emptied out a container of saved seeds a couple weeks ago. I'm surprised they germinated after several days and all that rain, but I have lots of seedlings showing colors, oh well. I doubt they will mature unless we get some sunshine.
The yellow squash and zucchini's continue to show lots of fruits as well are the cucumbers. We are having the Frankis Family for supper tonight and a lot of their garden got washed out during those gully washers rains a couple weeks ago, so I'll load them up with squashes and cucumbers. The half runner beans have covered the poles and now have a few beans maturing and if the deer don't eat them we should have plenty for our use and to give away. I have a new batch of lettuces almost ready to harvest as well and the Swiss chard and kale continue to mature and add to the salad bowl. Nancy used my kale last evening in our Zuppa soup we had for supper, delicious to say the least.
Not much else going on here on the mountain except we did head up to the blue berry patch on top to pick a pint or so from the bushes at Joe and Jetta's old place. The new owners contacted us and said to pick all that was coming in because they were away in Italy for 3 weeks. They should be back this week end and their berries are ripening daily. I'm starting to get a few from my bushes but the lack of sunshine once again is making the difference. I did after lunch get a fire going in the circle and burned some house hold trash for a change. The grasses will need mowing in the next couple of days as this weather is perfect for it. The Ray's lost on the west coast Monday night as they don't start playing until after 9 our time so I didn't check last night as I hit the sack at 10'ish, LATER
