Wednesday Morning June 1st

Well it's early in the morning and once more sleeping in has evaded me as I'm still hyped about all that needs to be done and the fact that Nancy is once more "playing in the band" throughout the night. I think if I want at least 5 hours of uninterrupted sleep I may have to head up stairs for the night or try the ear plugs once again. I never sat down during the entire day except to eat lunch and supper with the hope I would fall asleep exhausted.

Tuesday started out with a before 5 roll out to start the day and it was close to 10 when I headed in for some horizontal lab after a hot shower. We had the new TV hooked up to the fiber optic system and wow does this smart tv have everything but I did notice the picture wasn't as clear or sharp as I had hoped it would be but we were distracted with a phone call from Amy while the techs were setting it up so I failed to mention it to them. It became much more evident later in the night as Nancy perused the many channels the lack of sharpness to the picture. I think I forgot to get the HD bundle or what ever its called so I will call them back today and try to sort out this issue or maybe the tv is the problem.

Well after my usual morning routines of a hot cup of turmeric drink to help with the joints and believe me I can tell a huge difference with my knees. I only hope it works for the shoulders as well as I've some bursitis in my left arm which makes it very uncomfortable sleeping on my left side. I did my quiet time to honor my Creator and to lift up those I know and love in prayer and thoughts. I ask that you lift up my son in law Tyler as he is experiencing some sharp pains in his chest area and may have to have a stress test to determine if its his heart. He has been checked out in the emergency room with an EKG and other tests but they show nothing out of the norm.

The quietness of the area is almost too quiet as I hear the steady drip of the dew falling from the roof of the dormer onto the tin roof. It did rain again over night with nearly an inch and I noticed the evidence in my rain barrel. The re-planted plants from Florida seem to be doing much better with the addition of the rain and not so hot temps. It did reach the lower 70's during the day with bright sunshine and by the afternoon I thought we may get another shower but it passed us by which was OK with me. After the TV techs left we headed out to strip the circle drive flower bed of any plants we wanted to save and replant them elsewhere. I took the rotor tiller and worked up that bed for a couple of hours as we raked the vegetation and removed the rocks. I was surprised the dirt was in good condition for growing but the grass and clover had just about taken over chocking out the many flowering plants. I hauled two loads of weeds and grasses down to my compost pile.

I had saved a ton of Zinnia heads from last years crop and Nancy shredded the seeds from the stems and then scattered them in the well manicured bed. Hopefully they will sprout and give us a bed of these beautiful hardy flowers. I will churn up that bed again this fall before leaving it for the winter in hopes to get rid of the unwanted grass and clover. After a lite lunch I headed out to check on the black and red raspberries cuttings I planted last fall. It seems I have 5 red and 4 black plants which are putting out new growth. I weeded and fertilized them and they really sprang forth it seems overnight. The deer had eaten what new growth had started earlier in the spring but I'm thrilled these many plants lived.

I fired up the riding mower(which it started right up) and worked the backwoods yard for the next couple of hours. I want to lime and fertilize all of the yards in the next day or so to give it a good start on defeating the ever present moss which somehow grows so well in the shaded areas of the yard. The blueberry bushes are doing OK with one just loaded with green berries as is the wine berry bushes. They should come in sometime around the first of July. The deer love to munch on the blueberry bushes for some reason and keep them pruned back. Maybe next year I will get a crop off of another one of the four bushes.

Well after a meatless supper of beans, rice and salad( you would think I would lose some of this spare tire) I headed out to fertilize all of the flower beds and then to burn some trash, sticks and old wood. The wood smoke brings back familiar times as we sat around a campfire many nights before we ever had tv here at the cabin. It was almost dark when I decide to call it a day and head for the shower. Nancy was all snugged up on the couch when she noticed the tv wasn't as sharp as we anticipated with the fiber optic cable. I will check on making sure the HD receiver is what we needed or we will be taking a trip to Best Buy in Winston-Salem for a different tv, LATER
