Tuesday Morning..in the mountains

Well we are back in the mountains of N.C. at our cabin in the woods a place we call by many names such as; Black Bear Ridge and Almost Heaven over the years. It's just so peaceful and serene here and we hear only the sounds of the quietness except for the dew dripping down off the upstairs dormer onto the tin roof. At times it's almost too quiet when you have been use to the sounds of next door neighbors, road traffic, sirens, etc. that is associated with living in close proximity of folks. There is no one here close except down at the foot of our driveway. a tenth of a mile or so away. Anyhow we will have to hike later this week to see live people or go to town if we need a people fix. I just love it.

Well I was up a little before 3 on Monday morning as I usually do not sleep the night before traveling but I did for a change get a couple hours of shut eye which usually doesn't happen with me. I'm like a kid going fish'in the next day and I usually do not sleep the first night back at the cabin as well but I did not hear or feel Nancy when she came to bed last night; so that is good because I need sleep to function with all the work that needs to be done the first week here.

We pulled out from the Seminole house a few minutes before 4 AM. I had loaded the truck the night before except for the freezer and fridge items and things we carry in the cab with us. It was smooth sailing as we made out first stop in Ocala at a rest stop to potty and take a 5-10 minute walk around the grounds. The night sounds from all the truckers with their big rigs running was obvious. There were quite a few other folks up and on the road at that time of the day. We had no real traffic issues until we got close to our final turn off for the road to the cabin. I-77 just south of Elkin was down to one lane as road repair was being conducted and the back up was stop and go for a couple miles.

We did stop for breakfast at Mickey D's in Callahan, Fl. which is just before heading north onto I-95. We have our fixed stops on the way up and coming back in November. We made a long stop in Pooler, Ga. at Sam's Club for some items and to gas up at 2.27 a gallon and then again just before Charlotte in Rock Hill, S.C. at the Flying J's for 2.25 a gallon. We walk both places and then again at a couple rest areas along the way every hour and half. We still made great time as we pulled into the super Wal-Mart at the foot of the mountain in Elkin for some regular groceries before 3.  It's usually another half hour for the ride up the mountain and then to the cabin, so we were here around 4'ish.

That was an answer to prayer as we needed to be here before 5 so the phone company could reset our TV and Internet before 5. Both are up and running as well and now that I have been restored from my being banned from FB for three days has certainly made Nancy much easier to live with. She loves her  social media as well as do I but I get out of hand with some of my love Potus Trump's policies,  my country, GOD, military and badge family comments, oh well. I still can not for the life of me understand those who denigrate this nation and our culture and especially our potus and want to see the nation fail so as to make Trump look bad and those who campaign on murdering babies is beyond my comprehension.

We picked up Subway foot longs for our supper while at the Wal-Mart which was in store and brought it with us for later. Well the cabin inside looked just like we left a couple days ago. We had lots to do before finally unpacking the load from the back of the truck. I think we need to have a yard sale just on Nancy's clothing she packs each year. I think she forgets we have a washing machine here at the cabin. I unloaded everything then we ate and I headed outside to find a path through the yards which was knee high. I took the batteries from the basement and installed them in the golf cart, pumped up a couple low pressure tires and took a ride around the property looking for down limbs from the many trees as many were hidden in the tall grass. Next I got the riding mower running and started a first cutting which looked as if I could have made hay. The good thing was the grass had tons of seed heads which will reseed the yards and crowd out the weeds which do grow great here as well. I have lots to do with the gardens before planting and setting out my seedlings which by the way made it in perfect condition I kept them inside the cab with me in wet newspaper as the new cover for the back bed is black and draws heat which is unlike the last bed cover that was a white hard shell and reflected the sunshine.

I mowed until nearly dark then started a campfire to burn up the many down limbs I had gathered from the yards. The heat from the fire felt great and even Nancy who is usually complaining about the heat came out to get the feel of the warmth from the fire. We headed in around 9'ish and it wasn't but just a few minutes this wonderful delicious soft water from the well was enveloping me in suds and shampoo. Our water here is so sweet and delicious coming from over 200 feet in the ground and as cold as what comes out of the fridge. I piddled around on FB with my new freedom to comment and reminding myself my first amendment rights were now being monitored by some gestapo who has the authority to ban me, oh well. Nancy keeps reminding me to be positive and that I'm a christian. Good advice, LATER
