Friday morning 1st day of July

Well Thursday found us anticipating the arrival of our son, Bobby his wife Katie and their two children Annsley and Gabe. We knew it would be late afternoon before they arrived as they departed around 5 in the morning. We took another trip to Sparta for some extra goodies like baked bread from the bakery, lunch meat and fresh tomatoes and I even stopped by the Luffman Farm for fresh scallions before heading back. We had spoken with Gerald and had invited him for supper while his family is out in Nebraska for the shooting competition with his grandson Caleb.

The morning started much the usual with a before 6 roll out for me and then I did my usual morning routines that started with a cup of hot turmeric drink, a few quiet moments and then a lite breakfast of oatmeal and fresh fruit after posting this ramble. I donned my rubber boots and headed out to marvel at the yard and gardens and to check for any slug damage. We have noticed a few Japanese beetles on the flowers and I've quickly dispatched them with a thumbnail to the head. They are early this year and are voracious eaters especially on the roses and daisy's as well to the bean plants. I did notice some new growth on the beets and their leaves are now large enough to add to our salads which we all love so much.

I did a few small jobs and then hung the swing and got out the wagon and bug holding implements. The kiddos all like to capture beetles and butterflies and then study them. We were ready ahead of time and then Patrick and Kathryn showed up just before 5 to pick up their stored goodies from our basement as they moved into their summer rental for the next couple of months. Bobby and gang arrived a few minutes after the Tracy's who had been on the road since 2 AM as they wanted to avoid the D.C. traffic on their way down from Philadelphia. They decided to not stay for supper as they were both exhausted. Gerald Luffman had wanted me to help with the possibility of loading a fridge he was looking to purchase from a residence located out near us; but at the last moment he decided the 10 year old fridge wasn't worth it. He stayed and visited with us then ate with us before heading home.I think Kay and Mechelle leave Nebraska for home today as well.

Nancy's spaghetti and meatballs was a hit as was the fresh garden salad and garlic bread. She much later served fresh berry cobbler with vanilla ice cream after the kiddos had their baths and while we were watching the movie"Sandlot" on Netflix's that Bobby set up on our new TV. After eating supper we all headed out to the fire circle where the kiddos wanted a campfire and then Bobby got out his ball gloves and whiffle ball and bat. We all took turns whacking the ball and had a hoot of time for an hour or so until it was closing in on dusk.

The cobbler was awesome and the movie was great with the sound track from the 50's as well as tons of old cars from that era as well. That was the first movie since "13 Hours" we've watched this summer. I nodded off a couple times as it approached my bed time. After the kiddos were put to bed at the end of the movie I headed for the showers and was soon out by 10:30. We eagerly await the Ross Family as they will be here around 5'ish this evening we hope with their three kiddos. It should be a fun time this next week and then we got a call from Sister Dee that she and husband Mike will come down from Woodstock for the day and visit with us as well. This will be the first time all of the kiddos will be here together at one time, LATER

Here are a few pics form yesterday!!!
