Saturday Morning

Well Friday turned out to be almost a summer like day with warm temps up near 80 but we didn't see the sunshine until late afternoon so it remained rather nice to be outside. We did get a rain after dark and once more left everything drenched. The gardens and yards are loving this weather and since I spread some lime and old fertilizer the other day the grass has really greened up, especially backwoods yard. It's difficult to differentiate the new grass seedlings from the old grass when looking out from the back porch.

We started the day again with a sleep in until after 7'ish. We didn't have anything really planned so after our quiet times and the posting of this ramble we decided to walk out to the mailbox for our hike for the day. The mailbox walk has lots more of up and down hills than our one long pull up the back trail and while it encompasses only about a total of 2 miles the hill up our driveways is always the most difficult and strenuous. I think we will stick to the hike up to the top of the mountain as the distant scenery is much more appealing plus we will bypass our driveway at the end of the hike, oh well.

Since the skies were overcast with thunderheads around I thought this would be a good day for some bass fishing at our "mountain mom's" pond. Well Nancy caught a nice bass on the first cast using a plastic purple worm and had several more on. I finally landed 2 other bass through out the 3 hours or so we fished with lots of hits. I even had a big bass on that broke my 10 pound test line but never managed to turn him. It was a good day of lots of hits but even better was when we fried them up for our supper to accompany a fresh garden salad, yikes was that ever some good eatin'.

After fishing we stopped and visited with Helen for an hour or so before heading back to the cabin. It sure looked like rain at times but held off until after dark. Nancy was on the laptop and I vegetated in front of the NFL game between the Panthers and the Patriots. The Panthers sort of remind me of the Bucs as they have a ways to go to be a contender once again after last nights whuppin' by the Pats, oh well! I'm ready for the season to start and to get away from this pre-season mentality of only playing the good players half of the time. We both got a hankering for something sweet about 9 o'clock so Nancy made us a couple smores in the microwave and they really hit the spot. That's the first one of those I've had in many a moon. I thought having them so late would keep me up after hitting the sack, but after a hot shower and few chapters with Sandra Brown it was lights out for me, LATER
