Well we had some fireworks around here with the storms during the day and evening and once again some much needed rain but we are caught up for now and could use some clear skies with sunshine. Thursday Independence Day we celebrated by working around the cabin until 5'ish then headed over to the Luffman Farm for a cook out and then games until nearly 9 o'clock before heading back on the hill.
The day started much the usual with a before 6 roll out for me to my cup of hot green tea laced with turmeric and fresh ginger root while I posted this ramble and then spent some quiet time with my Creator in humble thanksgiving for my many blessings in life and then lifted up several by name. All is well as I've heard nothing to the contrary. The skies were somewhat clear early in the day so I did hang a load of laundry on the line for a couple hours before the clouds rolled in with natures fireworks, yikes at time the cracks of lightening caused the lights to blink in the cabin. I piddled around outside before the storms hit and it was great to see how the garden is putting on leaves and blooms. The radish and beets seeds I sowed less than a week ago are breaking ground as well. I did some weeding and hoeing and noticed the slugs got several of my small lettuce seedlings I still had in pots and a cut worm took off one collard seedlings that was about 4 inches in height.
After a semi mountain breakfast of grits and soft boiled eggs and a jalapeno pepper I headed down in the basement to seal the other half of the basement floor. It's looking great with the new grey paint and dried paint flecks on top. I'm hoping by sealing the paint for the first time ever that its worth the cost of the sealer. I had been throwing out unused items while moving around the stuff in the basement to paint so Nancy and I decided to do the same for the hall closet. We found stuff we had forgot about and decided to donate lots of things we never use to Alleghany Cares as well as junk lots of stuff we've accumulated over the years. It was a rainy afternoon and perfect for cleaning the closet. I also took down a home made towel rack in the upstairs bathroom and installed a more modern one we found in the closet that was of our wild animal motif. We now need to find a small toilet paper holder as the homemade one is just too big for the small space since the shower was installed. I'm sure Wal-Mart has one and we will be back there to stock up for the family next week.
We headed over to the Luffman's where we met Mechelle's newest male friend who is quite independent despite being wheelchair bound. He has hand controls on this car as well as he has a dragster which he races on weekends with his 15 year old son. He lives alone in Mt.Airy and works two jobs. He is quite affable and a really nice person and helped us to beat the gals in Sequence 2 out of 3 games before they all took off to the town to see the fireworks after a delicious supper of burgers, dogs and homemade strawberry ice cream Kay made and Nancy's decadent chocolate cake from scratch with is just down right the best ever. Gerald and I got in three games of corn hole after supper and he won 2 out of 3 pretty convincing. We all missed young Caleb as he has now been gone since Monday and a few tears were still being shed by his mom whenever we mentioned his name.
We got back and watched the last 30 minutes of the celebration on the Mall in D.C. before I tuned into the Ray's game and they lost in 10 innings to the Yanks, Oh well no relief pitching once again. It was soon hot shower time and then some horizontal lab around 10:30, LATER
