Well Monday turned out in the afternoon with some bright sunshine finally after several days of overcast, light drizzle and just wintry like days. It wasn't so cold as it has just been damp, dreary and things haven't completely dried out for days. We don't have the heat anymore but that may change later in the week as the lows are fore casted to be down into the low 40's at night with highs of only the 50's. We hung out at the cabin except for our daily hike to the top of the mountain and put the cabin in shape for the Ross Family who will arrive on Wednesday for a visit.
We started the day much the usual with our hot drinks, a few quiet moments and then a lite breakfast of a couple poached eggs for me with a dash of Texas Pete, yeow is that ever delicious and the eggs were home grown as well. I headed outside after this posting ramble to piddle around the yard and gardens. Nancy eventually joined me and we placed our load of pumpkins around the yard and porches so as to give the cabin that Fall look. Ava and Sam will have fun carving their own pumpkins.
After our hike to the top we settled into cleaning the cabin. I cleaned the leather couches and then wiped down all of the chairs while Nancy wiped down the walls in the bathroom. I vacuumed and she then cleaned and polished the hard wood floors with a dust mop with an awesome polish and cleaner sold only from Amway. I then headed down to the basement where I vacuumed it as well. We then made a list of what we needed from Sparta as we will visit there today(Tuesday) and stock up once again. I headed out to the garden after the sun came out and fed my lettuce and collards with a little miracle grow.
I took apart my bean stanchion from the lower garden I had for them to grow on as the deer had eaten the bottom leaves off and it was becoming an eye sore. I stored it under the back porch for next year. After our company leaves I want to rotor-till the lower gardens and get it ready for next years planting. I sat out on the deck in the sunshine for nearly an hour reading as the skies had finally cleared off with bright blue shining through. I picked some fresh green peppers and a couple red cayenne peppers for our fajitas we made from our left over roast chicken supper on Saturday. They were awesome with a little Italian dressing mixed in with the sautéed peppers and onions and a little Taco Bell sauce and sour cream.
After the cleanup I headed out to walk around the property before dark as it now is nearly black by 7 PM, yuck. I picked up a trash can full of sticks from the backwoods yards to be used for kindling for our campfires. We tuned into the Fox News channel and then I finished a read I started yesterday by Karen Robards. I'm wanting to read KILLING JESUS by Bill O'Reilly as our retired preacher friend has it and says it a good read. I've read both of his other recent books Killing Lincoln and Kennedy and they are truly great historical reads.
Well that's about except I must set the record straight after I thought the Red Sox lost that game on Sunday night. They came back in the later innings from being down 5 runs and won that game 6-5 over the Tigers. Sounds like the Tigers have some of the Ray's pitchers on their staff, Oh well, LATER Nancy took a few pictures of her pumpkins!!!
