Saturday Morning Dec 21st..shortest day of the year

Well Friday started out with the temps dropping down to comfort level with a front that moved into the area. No rain which is needed but some clouds that looked like rain at times, but by night fall it was jacket or sweater weather. I didn't do much except work in the gardens and then finished a good read by Mark Sullivan titled ROGUE. Nancy shopped for the Christmas dinner and breakfast when we feed lots of family and friends which is what she does best these days, oh well.

I started the day much the usual with a before 6 rollout to my routines that begin with some quiet times to honor my lord, Jesus, give thanks for another day and to lift several up by name for comfort and healing, all seem to be holding with this post. I ate lite for breakfast with just an orange before heading out around 9'ish to check the gardens. Everything looks good and I saw where a tomato is turning on one of the plants, so I'm hoping for tomato's before Christmas or at least one. I did clean and cook up a pot of collard greens with bacon, onion and chicken stock. I had them cooking at low heat for several hours and then cooled them off before putting them in the fridge and having them with pork chops tonight with our supper.

Nancy decided to start wrapping the way to many gifts we bought for family which took her all afternoon. She has become obsessed with buying and shopping and doesn't understand their is a saying of "enough is enough". I love that we can give gifts but she just over does it spending hundreds of dollars on each person as well as giving cash to several as well. I do enjoy sharing a great breakfast with family and neighbors Dan and Carol and then a huge prime rib dinner with family including Betsy and Gus and then sending plates homes with them for their two boys. I'm just thankful we can afford it as I have a pension  and no debt. I've always been a responsible gift giver for peoples needs and do not expect anything in return because what do I need, nothing, but good health and the love of Jesus. I don't get into the commercialization of the holidays which comes from growing up on a farm and subsistence living at times, oh well.

We picked up neighbors Dan and Carol and headed over to the Nymark's for supper and games around 5:30. They had meatball subs and we brought a garden salad, they also had some finger foods and a little vino. Their house is huge compared to ours and great for large crowds and are just a couple doors down from Amy and Tyler's house. Well the guys won last night after getting whupped the night before in hand, knee and foot and then we played the game Smart Ass which Steve won, so it was a guys night. It was after 9 when we headed out for home and dropped the Botbyl's off. I hit the shower and then watched a little TV before lights out at 10'ish, LATER
