Well this month is moving right along and hopefully Dorian is moving with it away from land and blowing itself out at sea. That thing has been around for over a week now causing death and destruction from the start when it hit the Bahamas last week. It's been on the warm side of near perfect rain free weather here and we actually could use a shower or two as I'm hand watering the gardens and yards daily.
Thursday was basically a work day for me after I did my morning routines that start with a 6'ish roll out to my cup of hot green tea laced with turmeric while I posted this ramble and then spent some quiet time with my Creator. Those I lift up daily by name for comfort and healing all seem as well as can be expected as I've heard nothing to the contrary. I fried up some bacon we brought back from Virginia and had a semi mountain breakfast, minus the cakes to start the day. I ran a birthday card out to the mailbox and then loaded up the golf cart with another load of top soil from one of the piles along the road into the cabin and spread it in some low places in the back yards.
I then hooked up the garden hose to the small electric pressure washer which does put out 1600PSI and does a fair job on removing the crud on the deck. It just takes awhile to get the job done which I actually spent about 5 hours doing just the deck and the top railings. I'll let it dry good for a day and then on Saturday give it a coat of wood preservative and water resistance liquid. That is usually the easiest part of the project as I use a roller. The old deck is 25 plus years old and still seems to be in good shape and is one of the many great facets of the cabin. We love to dine out there in the evenings after the sun has left the area and now with the new picnic tables its even more enjoyable when we have guests over.
We did get in a hike before supper and the the views on top were great despite some haze obstructing the buildings in Winston-Salem. There was a nice breeze and we sat and talked with Amy on the phone for a spell enjoying the cool breeze and views. We later took a golf cart ride to the top after supper and spooked up a couple rabbits and deer on the way up to bless Ben and Laura with some fresh garden cucumbers. They are still producing despite the vines turning yellow and a daily watering. I did harvest some kale and Swiss Chard for the salad bowl and some fresh sweet basil and finally a couple jalapeno peppers. All of the herbs are doing fine and I noticed a couple more small tomato's showing some color. The lettuce seedlings are showing some extra leaves and we just might get some for the salad bowl after all.
Well I tuned into the Ray's game and they won over the Blue Jays and continue to be in a wild card slot for the playoffs. Their bats saved them again as the relief pitching is suspect. I did watch a little of the US Open as well as a little of the first NFL game but I'm still out on their antics with regard to the National Anthem, LATER
Just a couple pics from our hike and we noticed some gum trees turning red already. Fall is just around the corner. You can see the difference in the wood after pressure washing which should save the wood for another couple years once I get a good coat of preservative on it.
