Friday Morning July 3rd

Well I must say after nearly 2 weeks of lower back pain and a week with this chiropractor I've managed to find some relief from a med called prednisone which with just one day of 60 mg's made a world of difference. I'm still having discomfort but not the excruciating type which at times had me close to tears due to the incessant pain down into the knee as well as the back and hip. I've read where there are some side effects but this is no doubt a wonder drug for inflammation and nothing the OTC meds can touch.

The day started on Thursday with my painful rollout a little before 6 to my cup of tea laced with turmeric while I posted this ramble and spent some time with my Creator lifting up several for comfort and healing and myself as well. I was hurting something awful in the lower back, hip and knee all on the right side. I did start the ice routines which helped immediately but it just took the edge off the pain until I headed to see the chiropractor who gave me a treatment and decided I needed this wonder drug for inflammation.

Well I made a few stops in town after the treatment and got back to the cabin around 10'ish and took my fist doze of 60mg's of the drug and almost within a couple hours noticed a little relief and it progressed throughout the day with me taking no pain meds since 6 in the morning. By bedtime around 10ish I noticed a slightly more reduction in the pain and while I continued the ice pack treatments there were times when I felt like I might recover. I was worried I might never recover and its still in the back of my mind daily since I do have major thinning of the L5 disc which was operated on back in the 60's while serving in the USAF in Viet Nam.

This morning after a decent nights sleep I still have pain and discomfort but do see some better days ahead and the rest certainly helped after Wednesday night was sleepless and filled with pain. I'm smoking a couple pork shoulders today for a get together at the Luffman's with several friends to celebrate the 4th of July. Everyone is tied up on Saturday so we are celebrating a day early. I'm thrilled I will be hopefully more pain free and can enjoy these great folks here in the mountains.

We spoke with Bobby last evening and they are all getting excited about arriving here next Friday for a week or so and then we will have more family arriving for a couple of days as well. He made it known what he needed to bring his delicious cooking and chef skills to the table so we will hope to fill his grocery list on Sunday and then again next Wednesday when we head back to the big Wal-Mart in Galax, Va.

Nancy and I played cards after a delicious fresh salad for supper with the last of the grilled chicken from 2 nights ago. Last night I won where as she has beaten me every day since I've been confined to the ice packs every hour. She did take a hike alone to the top of the mountain which for her is very brave because she is afraid she will run into a bear. We've been coming here since '92 and have yet to see one here in the woods; but other people have, so we know they are around. We did a have doe come out of the woods into the backwoods yard last evening and just took its time wondering around the yard. I'm sure this is the one who eats my off my berry bushes and flowers as well as my garden plants, oh well. She is a pretty thing and really very large; must be from all the good vegetables I grow.

Well that was about it and I'm praising GOD for helping me find a way to relieve this pain and hopefully restore me to being active again and for those who were lifting me up in their prayers for healing, I thank You. I do have a ways to go but I'm starting to the light at the end of this two week tunnel of pain and discomfort and heartache, LATER
