Well I must say these hills are kicking my rear as I ache almost from head to toe and Nancy is suffering as well. I would not have thought since I play pickle ball for a couple hours a day that I could be this out of shape physically. We put in a full day yesterday with breaks only for meals and a rain shower that had us napping for about an hour, oh!! The hard work is paying off as the place is starting to shape up and we so enjoy this ambiance.
The day started with me awake around 4'ish with but I did manage to stay horizontal until 5:30 then it was up for me with my usual morning routines of a hot cup of turmeric drink, a few quiet moments with my Creator and the I posted this ramble from yesterday's activities so our grandkids could someday if they are interested find out how we spent our time during retirement or just doing life. Nancy was still in the sack as she is a late riser and I'm just the opposite as I'm early to bed. I get a couple hours of sleep until she settles in sometime around midnight especially now that we have all of these tv selections.
We decided since the wind had destroyed our arbor over the winter that we would spend the morning rebuilding it. That job took a couple hours and luckily we were in the shade which made it nice as the sun was rather hot. There was a breeze which made it quite comfortable. While waiting for Nancy's help I weeded the fence line of the upper garden then sowed Zinnias seeds. All of the seedlings looked good even the large jalapeno pepper which I thought had a better than even chance to survive. I did lose one cucumber seedling but with two others doing rather well. I put one in the upper garden and one down below and if they make like last years plants I will feed the 'hood. I did sow some more lettuces, kale and morning glory seeds. I was hoping the plant I had last year on the arbor would come back but it was dead. I put the honey suckle vine I started from Florida in its place and its doing wonderful. If I can get it to grow on the arbor it will make a great reinforcement as well in keeping it sturdy doing high winds.
I wanted to try to start some okra, radishes and sugar peas by a new method of placing the seeds between damp moist paper towels until they germinate then place them in the ground. This way I can tell if the seeds are any good as well as control the placement instead of thinning out the extra sprouts. I read about this and I think it will work, oh well I will let you know later if this novel way of gardening is feasible. I did sow a couple of rows of bush beans in the side garden before the light rain made it to wet to plant any more. I still had some weed whacking to do so after a supper of a delicious inch pork chop slathered with fresh rosemary from the garden and Canadian best seasoning, yeow was that ever tasty prepared on the grill. It was going on 8 when Nancy decided she wanted some pictures from the top of the mountain so we headed up on the golf cart. Dust was evident down at the cabin but as we climbed higher out of the shade of the trees the sun was up and shining brightly so we stopped off at the Browning's for a short visit and petted Zeke. It was great to see them again and Joe was mowing his grass with a push mower at the age of 80. We checked out their gardens and flower beds and they look so healthy and manicured. Jetta has a bed of Black eyed Susan's she wants thinned out so we will find a place for them as they are one of the most colorful flowers. We headed back down the mountain and it was going on 9 o'clock before got into the cabin.
It wasn't long after I made a cup of Lemon Balm tea from my herbs that I was in a hot shower, oh did that ever feel great and then by nearly 10 I was ready for some horizontal lab. Nancy was channel flippin' and then she mention she stayed up until after midnight watching Roots, LATER
