A cold Friday morning here on the mountain

Well Thursday had a rather large range of temps which started with a light rain early in the morning then clearing skies with sunshine but some ominous clouds throughout the day. By late afternoon we saw some angry looking weather that was being ushered in by the wind. We never saw the heavy rain changing to snow showers that were in the forecast but it's down to the freezing mark this morning with roaring winds making it feel down into the 20's. Our son Bobby  and his two kiddos are on a plane as I write heading this way from warm Tampa, Fl.

We headed up the parkway to Pipers Gap to visit with Kimberly around 10 AM before heading on into Galax to do some last minute shopping. Kimberly still has a corral full of horses with a new filly. I think we came up with the name of Dallas for her as she is part Quarter and Appaloosa. She has a beautiful leopard blanket on a black frame like her daddy, Tom. We visited with here and her 4 dogs and umpteen horses for about an hour before heading out. She has a beautiful huge barn and stalls for the horses and she lives there in a modern horse trailer that is inside the barn. She showed us a video of Eddie walking with mechanical legs that stimulate his nerves and muscles as well as a modern wheelchair that looks somewhat like a Segway. He seems to be improving at the VA hospital in Richmond, Va. and his attitude is improving as well. Hopefully with his continued physical therapy and some miraculous healing he will be able to get around in the future on his own.

We did our shopping then headed back to the cabin for a late lunch before taking our hike of the day to the top of the mountain. The temps had dropped as the wind moved in over the mountains and by the time we headed back down after a visit with Joe and Jetta it was really turning cold. Angry looking black and gray clouds were covering the skies and for just about 10 minutes it rained hard as the wind was in an uproar. The wind blew hard the whole night and ushered in some very cold air but no white stuff. We were hoping for a dusting as Annsley and Gabe would love playing in the snow and they were so excited about hearing of the snow we had last weekend, LATER
