Well Friday started out with clouds and some fog and mist but as the day grew older the skies became darker and then a slight drizzle began after lunch and then at times it down pours. The sound of the rain on the tin roof is comforting unless you develop a leak which we have in the down stairs bathroom ceiling which we discovered after getting back last evening from a fun time out in town for supper and then at some friends house. Oh well.
I started the day on Friday much earlier than usual as I was keyed up about tearing up the upstairs bathroom to get ready for the shower install which I hope happens next week. The tile/plumber fellers allowed me to do as much prep work which saves them lots of work and me some cash. Needless to say it was a job; ripping off the back wall boards, the hardwood floor, moving the vanity after taking it apart and then the commode. I still have much to do but I need a different type of saw other than the skill saw to continue and they are bringing one by on Monday and give me a status check on what I can do for more preparation for them.
I did my quiet time and walked around the property and put out the rain gauge all before gathering what tools I would need to start the job up stairs. It seems this summer there are going to be some additional renovations other than the shower. It mushrooming as now Nancy wants to remove the carpet from the up stairs bedrooms and have vinyl plank flooring installed. I will need help on that project but first we must have the sections of the tin roof repaired which was done about ten years ago when the ice and snow build up on the steep roof gave way and took out a vent stack causing the tin roof to rip like a can opener. Myself and friend replaced that section and I don't think it was properly done because some silicone caulking was used and now I think the caulking has disintegrated over time and that is why we have the drip. There is always something to do especially when your gone for 7 months and leave a building unattended.
We got cleaned up around 4 and headed out around 5 to our first trip to the town of Sparta. We noticed the parkway repairs make it so pleasant to drive on again after so many years of disrepair with pot holes and the asphalt eroding to where we refused to subject our truck or any vehicle to the road. It was smooth sailing into town and the rain seems to really get harder as we arrived. We were meeting dear friends who live here year round at the local Pizzeria which has great food and live music especially on the first night of Music On the Main which was basically moved to the school auditorium. Several of the businesses have local live groups in their stores but mainly it's an outside event as the local police close the main street and foot traffic ventures from different establishments to watch and listen to various types of live bands. It's really a great local social event and I believe its the fourth year this takes place the first Friday night of every month starting in June and goes to November. This small town brings out folks from everywhere and some of the headliner bands are big time.
It was a wash out but we enjoyed some pizza then headed over to Mechelle place where we taught her, Caleb her son who enlisting in the USAF and leaves the first of July for basic training and his friend Ethan the game we call "dice' It's similar to Farkel another dice game. After a couple game where I lucked out winning. Gerald and Kay, Mechelle's parents came by and we played Kings on the Corner until after 9. We decided next time it the game the gals hate lose at Sequence as Gerald and I have the bragging rights since last November. The gals usually find ways to beat us except the last time in November. These folks are our mountain "family"and we love to eat and play games with them almost weekly.
Today Saturday we are heading to a wedding for a young lady we have known through Cornerstone Church since she was but a wee young'un. It was supposed to be an outdoor wedding which at times the vistas are just gorgeous but this week end it's all wet weather; such a shame. We know both the bride and the groom and their parents through the church and I've taught and played pickle ball with both the father of the bride and the groom himself. We are really for some sunshine as after two days of no sunshine and keeping to the cabin inside is a bit much; however the demolition of the bathroom was a great day for being inside. We both need our daily hikes. The grass and gardens like this wet weather and I hope the rain isn't too much for the new seedlings, LATER
