Rain, Rain go away, come again on a dry day!!! Well it sure seems we are in the tropics with so much wetness. We had another inch or so a couple times today and last night we could hear it rumbling in the distance again. I must have slept soundly because I never heard the rain during the night but it sure looks as if we were rained on again, oh well!
The day started out around 7 AM and after my quiet time and a lite breakfast we got ready and headed to Sparta. We made the library run and I picked up a new good read by Jeannette Walls the author of Crystal Palace which is a fantastic read about her life, and this book The Silver Star while its billed as a novel, I believe is somewhat based on a life experience. I finished it last night after our company left. Grant and Shirley Heglar who have a cabin on the way into our place were up for the week and we got together and played Logo with them until 10 PM. They loved the game as well.
I picked up a couple 364.00 books which are true crime and non-fiction books as well. We visited a small studio on Main Street and met an awesome artist, Chris Davis. She is a fantastic painter and has a unique shop and studio. She lives with her husband who is a home builder out near us on the parkway. She is a believer as well and does lots of work with new "wanna be" artist in the school system. Chris is a very personable lady and we thoroughly enjoyed her and her work. After leaving her studio we walked a couple doors down to the Mustard Seed Restaurant from a delicious lunch. I had the soup and sandwich and Nancy did the Chefs Salad, very tasty and reasonable.
We made a couple other stops for some groceries, cards, etc before heading back out of town in a torrential rainfall. This was another gully washer that followed us almost to the parkway. We actually saw the sun peep through the clouds as we entered our driveway but that didn't last long as the rain seemed to have followed us. Once again we were rained in the cabin and got no hike in for the day. I read all afternoon and ate homemade cookies that Nancy made for me. She doesn't care for them because they have no four or sugar but the flavor just somehow resonates with me. Here are the ingredients; oatmeal, raisins, dates, walnuts, ripe bananas, almond milk, applesauce and cinnamon. They don't look pretty according to Nancy and they are spongy but I love the taste and they are good for you, Oh well "to each his own". She made chocolate chip cookies which I avoid because of all the sugar. Kinda like Jack Spratt to my way of thinking!!
I fried up some trout that Caleb Dalton blessed us with and they were awesome for supper along with some Jasmine rice and canned turnip greens. After the clean up we were able to wander outside as the skies cleared for awhile and we checked on the slug and beetle damage. The rain has plastered the daisies and other flowers over and of course the ground is too soggy to mow. Well that's about it for today as Friday is looking like more rain is in the forecast. We are over 17 inches in the last 10 days which is unheard for this time of the year. I have a constant stream of water that is flowing in the back gully behind the cabin which is usually a dry bed, LATER
