Well we were busy most all day until our guests arrived between 3 and 4 with a huge thunderstorm that preceded their trek through the mountains. They made the mistake of traveling to our area down or up Rt.221 thru Hillsville. Well they got caught up in the traffic of the huge flea market so they found some road that finally let them out of the area.
The morning started with a 7 AM wake up and after our quiet time and usual routine we ate a lite breakfast before I headed out to check on the gardens. The rain from a day ago perked up the garden plants and the grass. The sun was in an out but with a nice breeze so we headed off on a hike to the top of the mountain for our daily hike. We stopped and visited with Joe and Jetta before heading back down to put the finishing touches on getting ready for Dee and Mike.
We got two slabs of spareribs ready for the smoker with hickory wood and plugged it in around noon. The smoke smell was awesome throughout the afternoon and evening until we decided the meat was ready for the table around 6. Nancy had made a squash casserole along with a beautiful garden salad and some oven taters to accompany the ribs that were slathered with Sonny's barbecue sauce. We had some fruit of the vine to warm up the palate and for dessert a delicious cheesecake topped with wine berries.
After the clean up we did a several rounds of a new game Mechelle lent to us called Hit or Miss and it was a very good thought provoking game. Dee and Nancy were the big winners in that order with Mike and myself bringing up the rear in that order as well. We had an ear to the college football games and scores throughout the evening as we played and it was after midnight before we put ourselves to bed, LATER
