Well I must say Tuesday was another day of adventure that found us riding a bike down the Virginia Creeper Trail into the town of Damascus, Va. There was 20 of us in our party including 4 month old Scarlett Perry and 2 year old Eliza Faye. It was a 2 hour trip there and back which was an adventure in an of itself with a 4 car convoy on the way back. Our family in two separate vehicles took the more easy route away from the twisted winding route which was at least 30 minutes shorter as we had several who were prone to car sickness. The added extra time was worth it just for that fact alone. All of the group met back at our cabin around 7'ish to clean up the leftovers we have accumulated over the past 3 days days and to play badminton, water tag with balloons and to have smores outside by the campfire.
Well we all left our cabin a little after 8 and traveled through some beautiful rural country with small farms, wooded lands and small villages and townships on our 2 hours trip to the quaint city of Damascus where we rented single bikes, hookup bikes, baby carriers and a tri-cycle which carried baby Scarlett and Nancy and I brought our mountain bikes. It was quite a trip up the mountain on a bike carrier to White Top with 116 curves where we were let off with several other large vans that each pulled 14 bikes on the carrier. We were let off and on our own for the next 17 miles down the mountain that once was a railroad track but now was a cinder path which had 30 some wooden bridges over small creeks. It was mostly no pedaling except for so areas along the way which flattened out to small farms, houses an a couple eateries that catered to bicyclist. We stopped and had a lite lunch along the way as well.
The first 30 minutes found us with rain ponchos on as the clouds opened up with rain one moment and sunshine the next. We did get a little wet but by the end of the ride a rain shower would have felt refreshing. We got back to the starting area at Sundogs Bike Shop some where around 4:30 in Damascus with some of us several minutes apart as we took our time and enjoyed the ambiance. The kiddos were having such a grand time as the two girls Ava an Annsley pedaled separate bikes and the boys were on hookup with Bobby and Amy. The rest of us were on individual bikes. What a great adventure for everyone and at times to just sat and watched the scenery as you moved down the mountain, LATER
