Monday Morning

Well Sunday was another day of temperature changes that ranged from the chilly 40's to the mild 70's by late afternoon. We worshiped at a local small church called Calvary Chapel in Truckee which meets in the auditorium of a high school. Afterwards we came back and snacked on finger foods most of which Patrick's sister Megan brought with her from home in Reno. We then watched the NFL and visited with Megan's husband Jim, Patrick's brother Howard and his wife Jo whom we met for the very first time as they live down in Tuscon, Arizona. We then feasted on grilled burgers and all the trimmings and bakery berry and peach pies for dessert.

We started the day off with a 5'ish local time roll out as I'm still trying to get the body acclimated to the 3 hour time difference. Once everyone was up and moving the girls put together a "mountain breakfast" of scrambled eggs, bacon, roasted taters and toast. Wow what a feed that was. That held us until we sampled the many delicious unfamiliar finger foods Megan prepared for us, yeow were they ever delicious for example; the dates filled with goat cheese, homemade humus and some type of crisp bread with toppings of herbs, cheeses and sun dried 'maters. We finished the grazing with thick burgers. After eating we walked through the hood which did have some hills. The trees here are very different and mostly an assortment of aspens and pine trees that are huge and even their pine cones are as large as a football. We did see some wildlife with chipmunks, red tail hawk and squirrels that lived in the yards that were mostly grown with trees, huge rocks and some flowers. We recognized some flowers from N.C. that were evident in a few yards, but we saw very few yards that actually had green grass.

The cabins or houses are very unique as well and along side the roads there are tall(6 ft or more) steel poles that mark the edges so when the snow piles upwards of several feet the snowplows known where to plow. Remember this is in the area of Donner Pass where snow accumulations can reach several feet in just one snow fall and some times closes down the mountain because of the heavy snowfalls. We walked a good hour and met a few folks who live here year round as this is mainly a tourist place with many of the cabins as second homes and rentals for the winter activities which is what our place is where we are staying.

Well after Patrick's sibling left somewhere around 7'ish we got into a game of Euchre with the men piling on in a big loss for the gals so much so they quit in the second game. We chilled doing our social networking and we men watching some great football. We were sadden to see thankfully the score only, the Bucs horrible loss to the Titans who just by the way played the QB we should have drafted. He picked us apart with his pin point passing and humiliated us 42-14. It's strange here in Calif. as the games started at 10 AM. with the time difference.

I hit the sack after a hot shower somewhere around 9'ish local which of course was after midnight at home, OH well. Today we are heading up to Virginia City which was the sight of one of the biggest discoveries of silver in the 1800's and is still very much like a western town we have seen on the tube, or in movies, LATER.
