It was 4:30 in the morning when our guests from Florida started their wake up preparations for heading South and at 5:30 they pulled out in the darkness with a light rain falling. We climbed back into the sack for another couple hours or so of rest before rising to start the day again. Rain once again was the topic as I checked the gauge and once more another inch or so fell over night. Later in the day we received another heavy down pour which lasted a couple hours. I fear swampland in the mountains if this keeps up. We now have a running stream down the back side of our woods which is usually a dry gully as the water flows down from the top of the mountain.
We headed out to Cornerstone for worship and our youth pastor Daryl did a fine job in his presentation of comparing Barabbas the criminal who Pilate turned free in exchange for the guiltless Jesus who was crucified and ultimately took on the sins of the world so we could be rectified with the FATHER. The music was awesome as well. We met up with several friends and was invited to an 18th birthday cookout and party that evening for Katelyn at her house. Karin her mom shared some of her Swiss Chard and red lettuce seedling with me as they needed thinning. She is growing her gardens in grow boxes that are up off the ground. While you are limited in the amount you grow your plants are in no danger of being washed away as what occurred with mine. Her seedlings looked fantastic despite all the rain and I'm excited to transplant them on Monday.
We had a great time of food and fellowship at the cookout and eventually played Logo and Balderdash while the rain fell in buckets once again. Their small creek was roaring and some of the bank gave way due to the swiftness of the water. They have 2 new colts that are just beautiful but a little muddy from all the rain in the stables and corrals. We left before dark and headed back to the cabin in the rain and saw where our road washed gullies once again. We found a grocery bag on the back porch with fresh homegrown corn in the shuck, cucumbers and yellow squash; thanks to the garden fairy whomever you are.
Well it was quiet around here with just us two. We learned how to pop corn in a brown paper bag from Karin; and save all that mess with greasy pots. It was a day of lows when our family left and of course highs with our church family and friends with the cook out and game playing. The constant rain has put a damper on our physical activities outside but all is well health wise so we feel blessed. We got word when we got back to the cabin our Florida family made it home safely and our daughter and grand kids were there visiting with them. We asked ourselves where did this week go?
We got word from our son he is arriving on the 28th of the month for a weeks stay with his family; so we are looking forward to that. The Rays swept the White Sox's and are still in contention in their division. We saw one of our Cornerstone folks who took a youth pastors job in Utah for a couple years and is now back in our county pastoring a local church. It was could to see him and his family. Well that's about all that's happening on Sunday. I'm making this post on Monday morning with the birds singing and sunshine peering through the tops of the trees surrounding the cabin. Looks as if it might be a banner day weather wise to start out with, LATER Here a few pictures of the 2 colts that are just a few days old as well as a picture of our birthday girl Katelyn who turned 18.
