Well Saturday was a mixture of work, hikes and visits with folks on top of the mountain and then an evening with old friends at an outdoor yard party with great barbecue, side dishes, desserts and some corn toss all while listening to a live country music band. Yikes two evening in a row with great entertainment.
The morning started with my internal alarm going off around 6'ish despite me wanting to hug the warm covers after an evening of some wild and crazy "flat footin". I felt the muscles from dancing while hiking in the afternoon. I learned one of the other known "dancing man" is 76 years young so I have a goal to achieve his fame or notoriety. I met him and his wife at the party last evening and they use to manage or run the Jubilee Dance Hall in Sparta. After my usual routines of; a hot cup of green tea laced with turmeric which helped wash down my handful of supplements, the posting of this ramble on this blog I spent a few quiet moments with my Creator in thanksgiving and prayer for those I know and love.
Dawn was just breaking and I headed out to the back porch where the thermometer read 48 degrees, yikes this is the start of the fall season. I quickly closed tight all of the windows downstairs then headed upstairs to close them as well. The dew was dripping from the dormer onto the tin roof breaking the silence of the morning stillness. Nancy was still in the horizontal position under an extra quilt which made for a warm bed of which I was hesitate to leave. I just can not stay in bed after awakening for some reason, oh well.
After she awakened somewhere around 8'ish I fixed breakfast sandwiches with the last of the pumpernickel bread, fried egg, sliced garden grown tomato, sliced sweet onion and some hamburger dill pickles all on toasted bread slathered with mayo, yeow what a flavorful combination for our breakfasts. That held us until a late snack for our lunch sometime around 1:30. I headed out to check on the gardens and once more picked a handful of cucumbers and a couple small tomatoes as well as a nice mess of pole beans. This was my first mess of them and they looked great. The new 1/2 runner and October bean seedlings are sending out runners so I expect them to start climbing in the next day or so especially with this bright sunshine. The ground has plenty of moisture after last weeks drenching with an inch or more of rain on Thursday night. The bugs seemed to have lessen with this cold snap as well.
I fired up the riding lawn mower and gave the whole place a manicure which took a couple hours or so. The morning glories are starting to bloom and we had two in full regala yesterday. That blue is so beautiful and vibrant and the vine has reached the pinnacle of the arbor. The zinnias are in just full bloom as well and are just as beautiful as the morning glories in their various shades of pastels. The place looks so great when mowed and the smell of the fresh cut grass is intoxicating. I've noticed a few crows lately each morning wondering through the yards. It seems to be 3 or 4 that hang out each morning walking through the grass, hopefully they are the reason the bugs have diminished.
We hiked the mountain trail somewhere around 2'ish and saw lots of folks on top. The new folks are moved in but they were no where to be seen. We noticed the Joe and Yvonne were up and we stopped and chatted with them for nearly an hour. They showed us through their beautiful cabin when we mentioned our friends where looking to rent a place next year for a couple months and if they were interested. They seldom get up with all of their medical issues and now he was hospitalized with some gastro infection this last week. They were interested in our proposal and even mentioned they were thinking of selling out in the future. Their place is awesome with distant views front and back, porches all the way around, with a garage, three floors and real logs, yeow what a place.
Well Nancy had a hash brown casserole in the oven as well as snicker doodle cookies ready to take to Karin and Franks yard party. They too have a beautiful working milk farm out in the western part of the county. They had approx. 75 folks there and the evening was just gorgeous with beautiful sunsets and the barbecue was fabulous. We stayed until dark and then some then headed out for the cabin. After a hot shower and few minutes with a new Follett book it was lights out for me around 10:30, LATER
