Thursday Morning July 20th

Well time is moving right along as this month is 2/3 rds gone already and I'm still awaiting ripe tomato's, cucumbers and squashes as well as mature peppers, oh well. The weather on Wednesday was awesome with low humidity and cooler temps. I don't believe we ever reached the high 70's with some cloud cover and a sprinkle in the late afternoon. Nothing to amount to anything with just enough to see it out line the truck on the gravel.

I started the day with my usual 6'ish rollout to my routines that start with some quiet time after posting this ramble to honor my LORD, give thanks for another day and to lift up several for comfort and healing. All seem to be holding at this moment. I headed out to check on the gardens after everyone awakened. We did have a heavy dew once again which required me to wear my gum boots. Everything looked good and the flowers are really starting to show their beautiful colors. I'm still waiting on the dahlias to head up and bloom but everything else is showing off their beauty especially the cone flowers.

I decided after eating one of Ava's delicious home made cinnamon buns to clean out the black raspberry patch of the dead stalks and pull out the grasses and weeds then cover the patch with dead pine needles. It seem they are holding down the weeds and giving the ground some compost and the new shoots seem to love the acid from them. I headed up into the backwoods with the golf cart where I loaded up two large trash cans of them and covered the ground. All I have to do before leaving in the Fall is to fertilize the patch and hopefully next year have enough berries to make jelly for a change.

I loaded up the garbage for the girls to drop off on their way to Galax to shop. I usually burn most of the burnable stuff, but Rocky is in fire pit munching on the leftovers so I forgo burning while he is here. After the girls left to shop for the next 6 hours I painted the red shed and then settled in to watch the Ray's lose their first three games in a row to the Rangers, oh well. They are now tied with the Orioles who are playing great ball and who are in town for 4 games. I sure hope our pitching and hitting comes to life for this series or we will be heading down in the standings.

We all took a late evening hike to the top of the mountain after a lite supper and it was a perfect evening for hiking. We need to do this instead of the mid morning hike when the heat and sunshine are more evident on top of the mountain. We had cleaned up some leftovers for supper as the girls ate out in Galax and then had ice cream at a local shop. It was after 8 before we got back from our hike and then they settled into HGTV while I watched some You Tube video on Viet Nam. I saw some areas that I was familiar with when my flying days were in several different places in the country. Lots of memories from there in those days when I was a young man, LATER
