Well our son Bobby and his two kiddos Annsley and Gabe just pulled out for Florida a few minutes before 6. It was a full week of fun, gourmet eating and almost perfect weather with cooler than normal temps. We had a grand time and it was sad to see them leave. Tammy, Rich and Brooke are still here and will leave this morning sometime around 9'ish for Shallotte, N.C. and then it will be so still here on the hill, yikes!!!
Saturday started with a somewhat sleep in until 7'ish. We had a big day planned with it being the 4th of July all the way up to 9:30 in the evening when we drove into Sparta and watched the fireworks. We had a corner of the Napco parking lot pretty much to our selves so we made a spot for lawn chairs in between the cars and trucks and Patrick had his music system fired up with some good boot scootin' music and we danced away until the fireworks began. Annsley and Gabe were dancing on the top of the topper of the truck and they at times were twirling sparklers in the dark. The temps were perfect and no bugs.
After a good breakfast of pancakes Bobby style and bacon we headed outside to blow bubbles and pick a few wine berries that had turned red overnight. I set up croquet and we played a few rounds checking out the course. The kiddos had a great time with Brooke as she pretty much had them to herself at time. I took them all to the creek on the golf course in the afternoon and we waded in the cold water barefooted as we initially were just going for a ride. We did the huge rope swing across the creek and everyone loved the experience and they did it several times. After about an hour we headed back and the kiddos were excited to tell of their experience. Patrick and Katherine came around 3 'ish and we got into some good corn toss games as well as another game of croquet. It was a great time of laughter and some good cutting up.
Well I grilled brats, Italian sausages and a new kind of hot dog that had no fillers, nitrites, etc we purchased at Sam's and they were delicious and along with the meat we had a decadent mac and cheese, spicy Cole slaw and baked beans and then brownies with vanilla ice cream and chocolate syrup with whipped cream. Some of us ate cheesecake which was leftover but awesome. Well after the cleanup we needed to kill a couple hours before the fireworks began so we got into a game of Balderdash and completed about 6 rounds with our variety of answers and Patrick was winning with the best score of reeling us in with his fictitious answers to some unheard of words.
Well we were back to the cabin after the fireworks sometime after 10'ish and Bobby got the kiddos bathed and into bed as he wanted an early start. What a great time we had with all and it sure will be quiet around here for a few days but already we have plans for Sam and Marcia to join us after church with Patrick and Kathryn to eat leftovers for lunch and then an outing on Tuesday as we celebrate Katelyn's 20th birthday with a cook out.
Keep Bobby and his kiddos in your thoughts and prayers for a safe trip back to Florida and don't forget today is corporate worship at a place of your choice to honor our Creator and hopefully bring some much needed healing to our land, LATER
I almost forgot to mention the morning hike to the top of the mountain, finding another orange newt and the water gun fight we had in the afternoon that had some of us soaking from the squirts and Annsley wanted a bird house built. I managed to take care of her request and even painted it so she could take it home with them.
