Thursday Morning

Well Wednesday was a touristy day as we traveled about an hour and half north of Sparta to the Patrick County area of Virginia and visited several shoppes and restaurant in the city of Floyd. What a neat little town and everyone was so friendly. It was a rather nasty day as the weather did not make it very pleasant to wander around town on foot. It was foggy, rainy and cool with temps in the upper 50's. We saw no sunshine at all for the day and then it rained most of the evening when we got back to the cabin. We are in need of some of that sunshine and heat that we left in Florida, oh well!!!

The day started out much the usual with a 6'ish or so roll out. We did our usual routines of a few quiet moments and then a lite breakfast of oatmeal with honey and cinnamon before I headed down to the basement to touch up some areas of the floor with paint before getting ready to head out to the Tracy's cabin. I did manage a walk around outside to check on the slug damage and found a few so it was squash time for them under my shoe. Everything has perked up and I noticed more radishes poking through the ground as well as some sugar peas are showing some green. We just need a dry day with a little sunshine to ready start the growing process for the garden. The kale and beet greens have shown so strengthening as well and I do believe we will be adding their leaves to salads with days.

We had a very nice lunch in Floyd at a place called Mickey G's. Everyone we spoke will recommended them and they were right. The Italian food was plentiful and very tasty and the only draw back was everyone was eating there and the event took a little longer than usual but well worth the wait. There was even a few plates that were totally uneaten due to the quantity. We ventured in several stores and one where I had befriended a young lady a few years back maybe around 10 or so and remembered her story and now her sister was manning this shop. It seems their parents were part of the hippy movement back in the 60 and 70's and became part of the arts and croissant group that inundated the area with their skills, lifestyles and communes. This young lady we met years ago had sisters who graduated with a PHD from Yale and this gal yesterday had an MBA as well. The parents as well as these gals today still choose this lifestyle which was evident in lots of the shoppes. I spoke with another gal and she and her husband for her 50 birthday flew back to 'Frisco to where this movement started in the 60's and we shared some memories of the area as I to had walked the streets while stationed in USAF. She was most friendly and we had a long chat about the area and the lifestyle.

We decided since it was after 3 that we would head back to Sparta the same way and forgo visiting another small town named Stuart and then the Canan area which is known for it's antiques and old fashion "mountain man" shopping. We will have to do that on a different site seeing foray with the Tracy's. We got back and I put together a guacamole and everyone else did a different part of preparing a delicious supper of grilled salmon, bowtie pasta with a cream sauce of fresh mushrooms and capers which was Kathryn's specialty and a salad that Nancy and Carol arranged. Our friend Sam from Elk Creek joined us as well. His wife Marcia was in Roanoke visiting her mother and missed the gala.

Well after eating we settled into the first game of the Stanley Cup play off game and the Lightning led deep into the third period when they made two critical errors and turned the puck over giving up two quick scores and losing to the Black hawks, yikes that was a tough one to lose at home especially after leading the whole game, Oh well there are 6 more games to play, LATER
