Saturday on a wet, rainy Sunday Morning

I would never guess this much rain would fall for such a long extended period here in these mountains. We still have it falling and did so all night long. Well to what occurred on Saturday. Actually for most of the day it wasn't a total rain out but there were times when sprinkles and dark rain clouds were ominous. We started the morning around 7 AM with fog, drizzle and cooler temps. I did manage to get out after our quiet times, a bowl of cereal and the posting of this ramble to squash a few slugs and beetles. This weather is paradise to slugs and they can destroy a garden plant almost over nights; of course the rain has just about done that also.

We decided since it was such a yucky day we would go to  Galax, Va. as I wanted some grass seed for the shady areas in the backwoods yard as well as some more lime. We got ready then headed out around 10:30. We made a garbage stop then a gas up stop. The price went up from $2.88 to $3.04 since last week and then I dropped Nancy off at the mall(super Wal-Mart) while I headed onto Lowes where I picked up seed, lime and acid for the blueberry bushes and hydrangeas. I figured out the pine needles and sawdust where just not enough for the acid loving blueberries.

We did most of our grocery shopping then made a stop at Hortons grocery just outside of town. They still cut meat to order and remind me of Cathers Farm Market where I use to work while in high school. They sell most everything and even have their own bakery. The butcher cut us a nice bone-in pork roast for our supper/get together on Sunday with our small group. We are having sauerkraut, kielbasa, dogs and roast with smashed taters, salad and dessert; sounds like the great dinners that GG turned me onto when Nancy and I were first married. We found out last week they like sauerkraut and pork and that is family dinner stable at our household.

We headed home and actually had to unload the truck in the light rain. After a lunch of leftovers the sun actually showed itself for 30 seconds and the rain stopped so I headed out with spreader and layed down a coat of grass seed. This damp, wet weather should be good for sprouting grass seed if the rain doesn't wash it away. Anyhow I got the seed spread and then set to weed whacking the entire yard. It sprinkled at times but I managed to complete that and even cut the front yard before the rain drove me into the cabin. It's been raining all evening and while it hasn't been a down pour(thankfully) it's still too strong to be out and about. We stayed in the rest of the evening and I grilled a couple of the hamburgers that came with our Delicious Ribbon Gift order of sirloins and burgers from the Mid-Western Beef company that you order from Amway(me) and they were excellent. Grass fed beef and you can tell the difference with no flare ups on the grille from dripping fat that you find in most burger meat.

Nancy sautéed some yellow squash with onion and that too complimented the burgers which we ate on Rosemary bread we purchased from a local bakery. Yeow fine  eatin' I must say. Well I tuned into the Rays game on the Internet and they came from behind to win again with just one loss in the last 9 games. They are in second place behind the Red Sox in their division. After our hot showers we tuned into the Hallmark Channel for a cute movie based on author Debbie Macomber's books that Nancy reads all the time. It was really very good for a chick flick and we snuggled on the couch until bedtime. We haven't sat and watched a movie together forever.

If any of you are interested in trying this beef company from the mid-west let me know as there is a special this month of buy one get one free and there is no limit to how many you order. I'm really pleased more so than Omaha Steaks as we tried them once and they weren't quite as good as this meat. At the price of beef in the store this will save you tons of money and it's delivered right to your door, frozen with dry ice and individually wrapped plus there is no shipping cost. E-mail me or respond to this ramble and I will give you all the particulars.

Well its time to get ready for worship at Cornerstone Church in Sparta, N.C. if we can get across the creek. It's been raining steadily all morning and now the fog has returned and there is just a sprinkle on the tin roof. I'm not sure where the forecast for sunny skies and just a chance for an afternoon shower went but it must have been thrown out days ago. Well take the time and thank GOD for all and I need to be reminded that I'm thankful I'm able to complain, LATER
