Well Sunday was anything but a sunny day in the morning as the rain fell once again after what seemed a brief reprieve during the night. We did our usual morning routine and then got ready to head out to Cornerstone for corporate worship. The skies actually lightened as we drove up to the building in a light shower and by the time the service was over the sun was shining with blue skies. Things were looking up it seemed until we headed back when we noticed there must have been a deluge while we were gone. Water was running everywhere down the roads as we neared home and after a walk around we saw the water running in a large stream down into the gully below the cabin and all of my recently sowed grass seed was washed away.
Pastor B had a good message on stress and ways to relieve or avoid being a victim of such societal related influences of stress. After the service we headed out to touch up the cabin as we were having what we thought would be a large gang for supper. It turned out that only 4 of them made it plus Nancy and I so we will have left overs for a day or so. We managed a hike to the top after getting the cabin in order and the pork roast in the oven. Water was still standing on the back road and running down in the dry stream gully which is now roaring with water. My rain gauge had been knocked over so we couldn't measure the down pour that occurred while we were gone but if had to have very substantial.
We got back from down off the mountain and while the sun was brilliant on top with blue skies; once more the skies darkened and the rain fell briefly. It wasn't long before the skies cleared off and we were able to meander around the yard and flower beds. Nancy picked a cup of wine berries that are now starting to ripe for our cereal in the morning. I picked tons of beetles and ended their voracious eating of anything green especially Nancy's flowers. I headed in to check on the Ray's and they were winning big again over the Astros.
Karin arrived around 5 without her friend Roger and then Mechelle called and was running late and said neither Andy or Caleb were coming as well. She eventually arrived after Kallie and Katelyn and we sat down to a sumptuous meal of roast pork with sauerkraut, kielbasa and hot dogs with smashed taters and crusty bread along with a salad made from garden grown lettuce. Karin brought and upside down pineapple cake which was marvelous I thought but which Nancy is not a big fan. We cleared the table and then started a game of Logo when I got a phone call from an old trooper buddy and who was our best man at our wedding some 33 plus years ago. It has been at least 25 years since I last spoke with him as he transferred out to the pan handle of Florida and stayed there until his retirement. We talked for quite awhile and his sister in law now lives in Charlotte. We made plans for the next time he gets up here for a sit down visit.
Well after Kallie won the Logo game and I finally got in the game after my phone call and came in last. We played 12 rounds of dominoes and once again I came in last with Kallie winning the game big time. It was going on midnight when they headed out and then we did the clean up and got ready for the showers. It rained a little during the evening but thankfully no gully washers. I think I'm over this rain for awhile and would like to see a day of some dry hot weather, LATER
