Well we started the day with a 6'ish rollout as we made ready to leave beautiful Woodstock, Va. and head back to our cabin just off the Blue Ridge Parkway. We packed up and left a little before 9 as we headed down I-81 towards Roanoke and Sam's Club to stock up on some items to last us the rest of the summer; mainly paper products and some food items. We also gassed up at 2.61 as well before taking the two lane road to Bent Mountain and then to Floyd and finally to Galax where we stopped and shopped some more. We even made a stop at the barber shop to have my ears lowered as well before getting back on the mountain.
The rain gauge was dry and so were many of the garden plants and I did take several watering cans of rain water from the barrel and hand watered some of the plants that looked the driest. I did harvest several mature cucumbers as well as several yellow squashes and noticed the deer had eaten off a few of the hollyhock plants as well as some of the October bean vines and a few beet green tops; but I'm thrilled its no worst than these few except, one of the egg plants had been topped by a deer. It was in the upper 80's which was still hot but nothing like the Woodstock area where 90's seemed normal for the time we were there. It has now clouded up and we sure could use a decent shower and if not I'll hand water before dark. It sure looks like rain with now over cast skies and the darkening of the skies, LATER
