Well Saturday was probably out hottest day so far this year with temps in the 60's to start the day and maybe it reached the low 80's. We did turn the a.c on during the afternoon as Steve came by around 3'ish and we got in another game of hand, knee and foot before supper and the another game afterwards as he is leaving this morning for home. We had him for a supper of delicious grilled venison burgers and tatter tots and then we saved enough room for the raspberry cobbler with vanilla ice cream that Nancy made the day before but we were to full to eat it, yeow was that ever delicious as well. It was a fun week with him visiting daily for suppers and games while he and I took morning hikes to the top of the mountain and we even shared some tools while he worked around his place and of course I was busy during the day at our place.
It will be just the two of us for the next week until son Bobby's family arrive for a week of total activities and some awesome eating as well as games during the day with the grands and of course some of their friends and ours together here for cooking out, in the mean time we have to make a run to Galax for shopping and then down off the mountain for doctors appointment and to visit with Helen in Elkin. I sure hope we get a little rain as the grass in turning brown here. I'm hand watering the gardens and flower beds daily now with this heat in the afternoons.
I started the fires again on the two stumps and they burned through out the day and one is getting close to ground level while the other stump which was a couple feet in height has dropped down to about half its original size. Both were huge oaks and hard to cut with the chain saw and drill with bits in hopes of getting the burn down into the stumps. Steve had an old chainsaw he picked up at a thrift store so I worked on it and got it running and I'll use it. Mine is old and the chain needs replacing and not much count for sawing into the one stump. I got his to run and it sawed up nicely and old log I had down below once I changed plugs and gave the carburetor and the air filter some cleaning. I'll keep it for now as he has no use for it and use it as my own.
Nancy won both card games with huge wins but we did give her a run for it as I won the night before with a huge win. Steve played hard and won a couple rounds but ended up with no wins during the last couple of days. He is a hoot to play with and loves playing cards. He taught us another game the two of us can play or with other friends called Michigan rummy or whatever state you want to call it. We will have to teach Jake and Katelyn this new game.
After Steve left around 7:30 I helped with the cleanup from supper and then headed out to give the new seedlings a drink before dark. The sun was hot during the afternoon and dried out the soil. Most all the plants look good except for where the deer ate off the sunflowers. Today is worship day at Cornerstone in Sparta at 10 and then on line at 8:15 with Gary Hamrick at Cornerstone Chapel. We take time every day usually in the morning to give thanks and to honor Jesus as well as lift several up by name for comfort and healing. Keep Steve in your prayers for safe travel back to Seminole, LATER
