Sunday Morning Oct 11th

Well we haven't seen the sun in the last 24 plus hours as the rain continues to fall. The temps aren't too bad as its in the upper 50's which requires the heat to be on. I'm just not an inside kind of person as I want to be outside in the fresh air, oh well. Saturday found us sleeping in for a change until 7:30 and it was still dark outside. I'm sure the overcast skies and rain contributed to the darkness at that hour.

We had a mountain breakfast of bacon, eggs and grits; I added to mine a garden grown tomato and jalapeno pepper. That held us until around 3 when we got back from the town of Galax. We had a couple ripe avocado's so Nancy made a guacamole and we had some jarred salsa and chips to accompany it. That held me the rest of the day and evening except for a cup of Thai tea and then some seed in grapes which was not eaten. I did my usual morning routines, quiet times and then social media comments before we headed out to town. I did load up the back of the truck with some garbage to dump on the way to town.

We first stopped at the barber shop for an ear lowering for me as Nancy mentioned I was getting shaggy. That didn't take long as their business has also been hurt by the virus and you must wear a mask. There were 3 barbers and one chair was empty so I was in and out in 15 to 20 minutes flat. We next went to Lowes for a new faucet for the basement sink and I noticed their blueberry bushes were at a reasonable price so I bought one of them as well. It was raining so I'll go back in the next week or so for fertilizer and lime for the yards.

We hit Wal-Mart next as Nancy is stocking up for Thanksgiving and Christmas when Amy and family come first and then Bobby and family next. That is the plan and we will see how that goes as it will be the first time either have ever come or us for those holidays. We loaded up the truck and made a gas stop at a 1.85 a gallon and then headed home. It rained all the way home and hasn't stopped with it pouring again this morning. The forecast is for 3-5 inches over the next day or so and that will cause some flooding in the area but we are high and dry. I did get in a quick morning hike before the rain settled into a constant down pour and was hoping it would let up enough in the evening for another hike, but it didn't. I was doing good on 3 hikes a day for a couple days but now I'll miss those hikes and will have to start all over again, oh well.

We did notice how the parkway tree leaves have changed overnight with yellows, oranges and reds throughout the drive into Galax, wow despite the overcast skies and rain the woods are filled with colors. I would say this time next week is peak as only a few oaks are still somewhat green. Our driveway is so colorful with all the different trees showing their colors. Its too bad the rain will knock most of the leaves off, LATER
