Well this will be my first post after leaving Florida on Sunday morning around 4 'ish for the 12 hour trip to N.C. It was a very uneventful trip with lite traffic for most of the way. We made really good time after stopping twice to eat at Mc Donalds; one in Callahan Fl. for breakfast and then again in Mooresville, N.C. for lunch. Both places required us to eat outside but we could order inside if we wished and we did. We made a Sam's Club stop in Columbia and then another Walmart stop at the foot of the mountain in Elkin; both were right off the interstate.
We pulled into the cabin around 4'ish and found the grasses extremely high and in every flower and garden bed. After unloading the truck I turned on the water and check all of the spigots for leaks and found none, thankfully. The inside of the cabin looked like we just left in a day or so ago instead of over 7 months. Everything looked in good order and every thing seemed to work properly. We didn't have any tv or internet as we had to wait for a work day(Mon) to have those turned on here at the cabin but they are up and working great. I managed to air up the golf cart tires and put in the batteries to both golf cart and riding lawn mower which I take out each winter and store in the basement which stays relatively warm through the winter months. Both of them started right up which was awesome so I decided to get in an hour or so mowing before dark settled in.
It took at least two mowing to finally get the grass down to a manageable size before calling it a night. The seedlings looked O.K. as the heat causeed them to wilt in the back bed of the truck but I gave them a drink and they seemed to perk up. I left them outside under the stars as the heavy cold night dew seemed to bring the back to life by morning light. I'll mention in the mornings blog of the work I got accomplished on our first full day at the cabin. The temps were in the low 50's over night and Nancy was shivering so she added an extra quilt to the bed. It didn't take me long after a hot shower to seek some horizontal lab after getting up before 3 AM, LATER
Here are a few pics of the flowers we saw when we arrived Sunday evening as well as me starting the first cutting with the riding mower.
