Sunday Morning

Well Saturday morning found us awake in the beautiful Shenandoah Valley surrounded by the blue mountains shrouded in some fog from the last nights heavy rain. The air was clean and fresh with awesome smells of fresh mowed grass and baled hay.

We had a delicious breakfast of soft boiled eggs with fresh tomato's and jalapeno's peppers out of their garden and a very sweet zucchini bread made also from their garden, yeow was that ever some fine eatin'. We got ready to head out to the Star Tannery community where Gravel Springs Church is located at 10. What an awesome view from the church and cemetery of the mountains. The grounds were set up for the the large crowd expected and by the time we left around 4'ish the place was packed with chairs.

The meal was fine with your choice of country ham or fried chicken with home grown green beans, corn, sliced cucumber salad, potato salad, macaroni salad, apple sauce, rolls and several desserts of your choice. They later in the day served barbecue chicken and pork along with the all of the earlier fixin's. We never stayed for the later meal as the humidity was starting to set in so we headed out for Dee's. I did get in a couple dances with oldest sister Josie on the dance floor. We were the only people out dancing except for a couple of young kids.

I did see an old friend who we grew up together at the old home place. I last saw him in '64 when I left home. It was nice to see so many distant relatives as well as Paw Paw. He looked rather thin but being close to 90 that was expected. He is living on his own again in the Winchester house which requires him to maneuver the stairs several times a day. He refuses to add a chair lift or leave the house which needs lots of updates, oh well. I offered to pick him up for church this morning but haven't heard from him as of yet.

Well we settled into a supper of tomato sandwiches after snacks of guacamole, salsa and cheese and crackers with a little vino. Afterwards we sat around and talked and then got into a couple of game of Euchre where we split with finally a win for the boys. We will have the rubber match tonight for bragging rights, LATER
