Well Thursday started out as a work day and after lunch we took off for the town of Galax to do some shopping. Originally we were taking our "mountain mom" out for dinner but she experienced a loss of water from her well which caused all kinds of issues. She had a new pump and water lines installed in the well itself which took several hours with three workmen to complete and left her exhausted from the stress. We met up with neighbor Gerald who was visiting for the day from Blacksburg and had him up for supper instead.
The day started much the usual with a 6'ish roll out for me and Nancy followed an hour later. It was another beautiful morning with cool temps and the stillness of morning was broken only by the dew dripping down onto the tin roof from the upper dormer. Rabbits were in the yard eating clover. This is the first year we have seen so many rabbits for a change in our yard and on top of the mountain. I did my quiet time to honor my Creator and to lift up several by name for healing before checking the news and social media. Nancy prepared some egg and sausage biscuits for our breakfast which were so delicious.
I headed out to trim trees of their low hanging branches in the backwoods yard, front and side yards and then trimmed the two large blue Spruce trees in the front yard. I had a couple golf cart loads of the branches when I finally finished. Nancy had a load of laundry on the clothesline which was a perfect day for drying outside. We decided to take a morning hike to the top of the mountain and saw no one outside on our way. We came back and I finished up the leftovers for lunch before we got ready to head to town. We heard neighbor Gerald pull in his driveway and then stopped to chat with him. He was only here for the night so we decided since Helen cancelled on our supper out trip that we would have him up to cook out on the grill.
I grilled fresh corn on the cob in the shuck, steak and marinated chicken breasts and Nancy had a delicious pot of fresh Brussel sprouts and a fresh salad with homemade Greek dressing, yeow what a feed and to get the taste buds going we a glass of merlot while waiting for the meats to cook. We sat outside on the picnic table on the deck and it was glorious with the fresh air an in the shade. We will miss him and Karyl next weekend as they both will be here as we are planning on visiting the Winchester/Woodstock area for a mini family reunion at the Gravel Springs picnic in Star Tannery, Va.
Well after Gerald headed back down the drive we cleaned up the dishes then fired up the golf cart and headed up to the top of the mountain to visit with Jaime and her pup Blue. We played hard for about 30 minutes then headed on across the mountain and stopped and visited with Shawnee and finally with a stop at Billy and Paula until nearly dark. We needed the lights on to see our way home around 9'ish as the days are getting shorter. It wasn't long until it was shower time for me and then I watched a little of the Hall of Fame football game before retiring to read a little before lights out for me around 10'ish, LATER
