Well first I'm thankful for all some 20 thousand folks who enjoy or just like reading this "flap" I muster out each morning called Trip's Daily this past year. I use it at times to express some of my most solemn thoughts about life in general, politics, love of family and friends and my profound belief in my Creator and the use of prayer to GOD who created the universe and gave birth to all.
The last day of 2016 started out in the morning much the usual with a 6'ish roll out to a chilly 45 degrees. I noticed several of the roof tops were coated in our first frost of the winter. It was down right chilly and the wind was non-existent. Needless to say the bike ride to the Rec was a 3 shirt ride but on the way home after two hours of pickle ball I shed one of them the sun quickly melted the ice and turned the ambient air to the 60's and eventually we were in toe low 70's before lunch. That is one great attraction to Florida winters. Cold to start the day but usually always warming by the afternoon if the sun is shining which is just about always.
I did my cup of hot tea with turmeric while I posted the last ramble for 2016 enclosed in a robe and shirt underneath. This AM I'm sitting with no shirt as the temp change is nearly 20 degrees warmer than yesterday, anyhow I spent my usual quiet moments with my Creator in humble thanksgiving and intercessory thoughts and prayers for those I know and love for healing, travel mercies, good will and for our new president elect Trump and his success in making America Great Again. We who have been critical of the last inept potus now have Hope with this non politician who doesn't have to worry about filling his bank account with hush, slush and bribe money. I sometimes wonder how these politicians get so rich while working in the government and no one questions them on this matter.
We had a great turn out on the pickle ball court with three courts in action and once again a couple new A players were visiting and added a challenge. I left after two hours with a wet shirt and worn down down. I made a stop at the library for a couple reads that I had on order before heading home to water the gardens. The overnight cold and frost didn't seem to reach my gardens as the big backyard oak tree kept it frost free. The cucumbers and okra don't care for the colder temps but they didn't look affected. I seems keeping the roots somewhat wet helps with preventing any damage due to the cold temps.
Nancy took off on her neighborhood walk which is usually around 45 minutes. She eventually discarded the heavy coat she started with. I piddled around in the gardens then settled in to read until lunch time. I had a bowl of the leftover beef barley soup which was perfect for me after just an apple for breakfast. I'm maintaining somewhere around 184 but would like to get lower but it's very difficult despite no sugar in the form of desserts, candy and processed foods. At least I've somewhat shrunk the spare tire by 10 pounds since we've been home. I really don't miss the processed sugars in this change of eating habits and I'm determined to continue the course. Last night at our get together to what the old year out we had ton's of finger foods and of course 4 kinds of awesome dessert. I made myself stay away from the sugary desserts but did have an extra glass of red vino through out the 6 hours we snacked, play a game called "THINGS" and watched Ohio State get trampled by Clemson and then watch a video about the evils of Scientology. I cat napped at times as my usal bedtime is now 10'ish but we saw the ball drop and gave hugs and well wishes that we made it through another year. One of our "cool peoples club" member abandoned the gathering and went to bed as she said she needed her beauty rest, oh well.
We headed home which was 4 houses down the street and since we showered before going to the party if was just a few minor things before horizontal lab for me. I could hear the fireworks throughout the 'hood but I soon donned the ear plugs which helps to keep Nancy's noise to a lesser degree and I was gone when she came in sometime around 1. We had snacked on shrimp, egg rolls, jalapeno poppers, spinach dip, wings, cheeses and crackers. I stayed away from anything processed but did hanker down on the poppers, shrimps and egg rolls. It was a fun evening and we always have a great time with our 6 members in the cool peoples club as Patrick so aptly named our group. I'm the oldest with the youngest wife but the gals are all within a year of each other and I'm just about a half dozen years older than the men. Dan is the only one not retired as of yet but he is looking to semi-retire this coming year.
Well we are in for another family dinner today(Sunday) as The Ross Family is back from Kansas, Bobby's Family, GG and Nancy's sisters family will all be here for the annual first day of the new years get together with pork roast, smashed taters, sauerkraut, dogs, kielbasa and black-eyed peas with crust bread. The grand kiddos will have a fun time reconnecting with one another and we will have been blessed beyond measures. Don't forget that today is Sunday and corporate worship day with other believers to honor and give praise to our Creator. May GOD Bless America and may we never forget those who have sacrificed for this nation which serving in the military and on the streets as an police officer. There is always bad with the good but lets hope with this new Potus we will separate the bad and rid the nation of its influence.
