Tuesday Morning

Well Monday was one of those days you dream about during the hot summer months, yikes it was 54 here this morning and didn't get much over 70 for the day with lots of blue skies, bright sunshine and NO humidity. Nancy at times felt chilled and did don a sweat shirt during the evening hours. It's supposed to be like this for the next couple of days and with it being towards the end of August, I guess Fall with soon be arriving. The local folks aren't exactly thrilled with the thought of summer being nearly over but school started yesterday so the inevitable season is nearly upon the mountains.

I started the day with my usual roll out around 6 'ish despite some sore muscles from our constant pedal of 17 miles in the rain. It didn't take long for them to warm up after a hearty breakfast and a few trips up and down the back yards. I did my normal routines of a hot cup of turmeric tea while posting about the day before's activities and then spent some quiet time with my Creator giving thanks for the blessings and lifting up those I know and love by name. Afterwards I scrambled a couple of cackleberries with sauteed' onions, green peppers and a fresh garden tomato and then added a fresh jalapeno' pepper to the mix to start the juices flowing. That held me until suppertime with the exception of a red apple sometime around 2 ish. We ate fresh veggies for most of the day with garden grown green beans in a bacon and onion bath and then some sauteed' onions, green pepper and yellow squash all from the garden for our supper, Yeow was that ever delicious and so healthy as well.

After breakfast I headed down to the lower garden and loosened up the area I rotor tilled a couple weeks ago to plant three rows of October bean seeds, a row of spinach and a couple beds of black seeded simpson and bibb lettuce seeds. The late sowing of 1/2 runner beans had sprouted after just 4 days of sowing. I forgot where I had sowed them in the upper garden and while loosening the soil around the egg plants mistakenly hoed into the sowed bean seeds. Oh well, at least these old seeds had sprouted so that was good to know. I've not had good luck with these beans in the lower garden before so I thought I would sow these old seeds in the upper garden; who knows I may get a late crop of these delicious beans to share.

We took off on our daily hike to the top of the mountain and noticed that Mike and Nancy were up to their cabin loading article from within. That means the place did sell after being on the market for several years. We are thrilled for them and did learn the new buyers were the couple who got lost in the back woods during the day of my surprise party. They nearly overturned their SUV and several of my guests assisted with getting them out of their predicament. They were so encouraged by all of the help they decided they wanted to be near these kind of people. One never knows how a small gesture of help can become an influence on others in making major life decisions. They now will become our neighbors. We sat and visited with our mountain top friends the Browning's for quite a spell before heading back down to the cabin. It was just a glorious day for hiking and being outside.

I picked a couple small tomatoes and noticed one of the larger ones turning as well. I did pick another 1/2 dozen cucumbers and called our friends Kimberly and Eddie to come by for a sack full. She and her daughter and grand daughter came by for a visit and stayed for a couple hours. We had a grand time enjoying Miyah and Rachel as well. We set up a play date this Saturday to once again visit with wheel chair bound Eddie and pull a supper together and then play their favorite game of Sequence. It's great to be able to bless others from our bountiful garden of which their horse manure has helped with enriching the soil. I'm amazed at the numbers of cucumbers I've pulled this summer and they are still loaded with nubins all from just four plants. Well after our late supper we settled into the Fox Cable News channel and then watched some little league world series play until it was shower time for me. After a few minutes with a book its was lights out around 10'ish, LATER
