Well Friday was another work day which found me up early. We had to head to Sparta to pick up our new grill and then a stop at the vegetable stand which also sells veggie and flower seedlings. We visited with neighbors in the evening and then got back to the cabin just before dark.
Well the day started with a before 6 roll out for me. I'm still waking in the before 6'ish range as I've lots of projects to infiltrate my mind. I must say the projects are endless and never a dull moment especially with the purchased of the new grill in box. It seems right off the bat we have to replace two parts; one that is missing and one that was damaged somewhere along the line but the folks at KSN Enterprise have the spare parts I will need to make it right and function.
I checked the gardens after my initial morning routines of a few quiet moments and the posting of this ramble for any deer or slug damage. I did fine two slimy slugs and quickly dispatched them under my boot. It seems they are almost a bigger problem than the deer as daily they eat their way through many plants and flowers. I will probably have to use some slug repellant dust if the rain and damp conditions continue. I'm not a pesticide user but may have to make an exception for these slimy insects which have no natural enemy except dry and hot conditions, oh well!!
The recently transplanted flowers from the Browning beds look awesome as we replanted them within an hour of digging. The plants I brought from Florida are holding their own except for the cucumber seedlings so I purchased a pack of four today along with a bell pepper, egg plant, yellow squash and 8 cabbage seedlings. I also was able to sow two rows of pole beans in the lower garden as well. Nancy purchased more bedding flowers and moved them into pots to decorate the porches.
After lunch I loaded up the golf cart with fertilizer and pelletized lime and the spreader and gave all of the yards a good coat. That is one chore that really gives me as much a workout as hiking with walking up and down these hilly yards. We could hear thunder in the distance and was hoping no "gully washer" as we experienced yesterday in Galax, Va. The storm went around us much to our pleasure as we wanted to continued working outside in the yards and gardens.
Well we had taco salad for supper along with a delicious guacamole, yeow was that ever tasty. It seems every thing has a great taste here in the mountains with this delicious water that comes from our well 255 feet deep into the earth. It's refrigerator cold out of the spigot. Well after the cleanup we took off in the golf cart to visit some neighbors who we briefly spoke with on our way out the drive this morning. We sat on their porch for and hour or so and caught up on all the news with them and the other neighbors. They leave on Monday to go back to Ohio before coming back the end of the month.
Well That was about it for this day as it was nearly 9 o'clock and still light outside. I hit the showers and afterwards could barely keep my eyes open while watching some Fox News on our new large screen flat HD TV. We are "moving on up" in the world a few years late, oh well, LATER
