Well Saturday was chilly one to start with temps in the 40's and it may have reached the middle 50's by late afternoon but with the rain that started mid morning and lasted until nearly dark it wasn't our usual sunny warm day in Florida. Of course it was a lot warmer than the mountains and when I spoke with Paw Paw it was just above freezing in Winchester, Va., so really I shouldn't complain.
I was up at my usual 6 'ish to start the day and did my morning routines before heading out around 9'ish to climb up on the roof to blow leaves and sticks from the gutters and the roof as well as pull down some dead limbs hanging over the roof. I even took the long pole saw and sawed down a few branches that were starting to die. I worked up a sweat in no time despite the chill in the air. The skies were overcast and looked like rain but I went ahead and mowed or sucked up the leaves from the front and side yards and was about to mulch them when it began a light rain. So much for getting the back yard cleaned of leaves but the front yard looked great with the green grass showing through after being once covered with brown oak leaves.
Well it was inside for the rest of the day as I'm still having some nasal drip as well as an occasional cough. Nancy has lost her voice except for a high squeaky sound. She has a nasal drip as well and a lingering cough. Seems we have acquired our grand kiddos colds. Let's hope it doesn't develop into anything more serious. Nancy had a flu shot while I didn't and I think it's too late to get one. I spent the rest of the day reading while Nancy was on FaceBook. It was nasty outside with it being cold, wet and overcast. I went out to check the mail and my warm breath was visible.
Well the garden liked all of this soft constant rain especially the leafy green veggies. I'm not sure how the new cucumber seedlings are handling this cold as they do not like the cold and neither do the tomato's. It's supposed to go down into the low 40's here in our area and to the 30's inland. The Gulf and Bay waters keep us from freezes most of the time as we are surrounded by water on three sides. Well that was about it for the day as it was mostly staying inside to keep warm and rest these colds we have acquired.
Today is worship day so we will head out with our friends to Bridgepoint Church in St.Petersburg and then get together later in the evening for a super bowl party. I'm going smoke a couple beef chuck roasts for 5-6 hours. This will be a first for me as they mimic a brisket in flavor and not nearly as tough. These two have great marbling which should add flavor to the meat. We will meet at the Botbyl's house and then the Tracy will join us to eat, watch the game on their big screen TV and possibly play a hand or two of Euchre, LATER
