The morning started out much the usual except I did snuggle under the covers for an extra half hour before starting the day. It was still dark outside and I will be glad when I can awaken to some daylight when starting the day; of course it will be dark by 6 PM or even earlier so there is some trade off. After my usual morning routines and a few quiet moments I finished off the two leftover buckwheat cakes for breakfast before heading out to check on the gardens. There was a nice breeze blowing across the backwoods yard so I fired up the leaf blower and with the help of the wind blew a ton of fallen leaves down over the bank and into the gully. This really opened up the green grass to the bright sunshine and I hope it will help with the reduction of the moss that thrives in this partially shaded area. It is a good workout as well when rounding up the leaves and moving them down the hill especially when the wind starts to swirl and blows then back up the hill. The finished results looked good for a couple hours until the trees once again began dropping dead leaves with the help of the breeze.
We had a nice hike to the top of the mountain and visited momentarily with Sandy Cline and a friend who were up for the day doing some chores at his cabin. No one else was out and about so we headed on back for a lite lunch of leftovers. After lunch our young friend Kaithlyn came by with her two pups for a nice visit and stayed for nearly an hour or more. She is getting ready for her mom's wedding day this Saturday of which we will attend along with many of our mountain friends. I worked outside on the side deck giving it another coat of water repellant. What a job that was as I used a 5 inch brush and was down on my hands and knees for a couple hours. At least that job is finished for this year and hopefully preserved the wood for another year against the rain and snow. The deck is outside with no roof so it is constantly in the weather but so far is holding up with this yearly protective coat of wood preservative. I think next year I may try a different method of application as I felt the aches in the knees and back, oh well maybe old age is catching up with me.
Well I fried up a couple rainbow trout I had frozen in water that my young mountain buddy, Caleb blessed us with and were they ever delicious along with some rice and black eyed peas for supper. After the cleanup we settled into the Fox news and then I watched the Cub's eliminate the Cardinals from the playoff's. Our old Ray's manager Joe Maddon took this Cub's team in his first year as their skipper to the playoff's which says a lot for him and not much for the management of the Ray's as they let him go when his contract was up last year. I really thought he did a great job for the Ray's while he was there and
took us to several winning seasons, oh well!! It wasn't long after the game and a hot shower I felt the sandman calling, LATER
