Thursday Morning 2015

Well Wednesday the last day of 2014 was nothing like a normal day for Florida when it comes to the weather. The day was a continuation of the past couple days with a no show of sunshine, it was damp and even a bit chilly with a breeze that had a little spitting rain mixed in as well. While no real rain fell the skies sure had the low clouds and today to start the new year it looks much like the same outside at 7:30 in the morning.

I started out on Wednesday after a few quiets moments and a bowl of oatmeal on my bike headed to the rec for the last workout of the year on the pickle ball court with 12 or so other players. Today was an open day so we had a variety of skill levels but for the most part the play was good. I managed to stay on the court for most of the 2 hour workout as the winning team split after each match and then changed partners. I had a soaked shirt by the time I headed out at 10. I made a quick stop at the library before heading home and picked up a couple CD'S to play in my Bose player. Wow it was good to hear some of the older romantic songs of Dean Martin, Sinatra and a few others who filled my listening pleasure for a couple hours during the day while I mostly read. I started a new book titled THE PERFECT CRIME by Peter Abrahams and what a page turner that has turned out to be. I spent the biggest part of the afternoon and evening and even after the ball dropped at midnight reading.

Amy and the grand kiddos came for lunch and most of the afternoon. I helped them to make rubber bouncy balls from kit they received for Christmas. It did require some adult supervision and know how so I was elected as the materials were caustic but it looks like after following the directions we actually made balls using colored materials and plastic figurines in the middle. This creation was much to advanced for this age group but I let them decide which crystals to mix creating a rainbow of colors. That kept them occupied for an hour or so. After they left we chilled until it was time to get ready and head out up the street to the Botbyl's house to watch the old year out and the new one in. Little did we know that was not to be as quickly the evening saw fire trucks, EMT's and an ambulance at their front door.

Patrick and Kathryn met us there at 6:30 and of course we had delicious finger foods; stuffed mushrooms, jalapeno poppers, layered taco dip and chips, shrimp spring rolls, shrimp with cocktail sauce, a huge vegetable tray with dip and then a yummy strawberry parfait for the dessert, Wow did we ever put on the "feed bag" for the evening and afterwards settled into a rowdy game of Beyond Bauderdash with hostess Carol smoking everyone; even Nancy who usually wins. The Tracy's had to make another appearance in their 'hood so they headed out after the game. The four of us decided to play Euchre until the ball dropped at midnight and we were into the third round when we hear a crashing noise coming from Carol's mom room and a cry for help.

Carol's mom fell out of bed striking her head on a night stand lacerating the side of her face. She was transported to the hospital via an ambulance due to her advanced age. She never lost consciousness but did lose a lot of blood. Carol rode with her mom to the hospitable and then Dan followed later. We decided since there really was no need for us to go to the hospital that we would watch the ball drop at home. I read and watched a boxing match until midnight as we were both keyed up from the food and the incident with Carol's mom. The neighborhood was in full swing with fireworks and loud explosions for what seemed like hours after midnight.

Well 2014 is gone and never shall we see those days again. It seems like yesterday all of the dooms day folks were predicting that the year of 2000 would be the finale for us all; but like the Bible says no one knows went that final day will come. Our nation has been blessed in so many ways much like the great civilizations of past especially when honoring GOD; but now that we have such leaders who constantly denigrate our Creator, I see cracks in our society for the good of mankind. Lets hope with new leadership in this

government that we will once more get back to what our founding fathers based our country on and that was the Judeo-Christian principles, LATER
