Well Monday was a work day here on the mountain and I could sure tell I've been relaxing the past few days as I was whipped by the end of the day. It was stump burning day and I probably burned a couple cords of wood to burn out this 3 tree stump.
The morning started with a 7'ish roll out and it was rather chilly with temps down into the low 50's once again. The dew dripping from the dormer onto the tin roof was the only sound except for a lonesome crow off in the distance. The skies were a bit overcast but eventually cleared off with bright sunshine around mid morning, enough so Nancy hung some laundry outside. The air was so sweet smelling and cool. I headed out to start the fire shortly after my usual routine(s) and had it blazing away with the use of petrified pine knots(lighter knots) found throughout the woods. They have the smell of turpentine when split and will light with just a match. Most of the knots are the result of when the property was logged 30 to 40 years ago.
Nancy called me in around 9 AM for some buckwheat cakes and cackleberries for breakfast, wow that some fine eatin' as she smashed up a ripe banana into the batter. That held me despite all the work until a lite lunch of just guacamole and chips around 1. I continued to saw down some dead pines and enter them onto the fiery inferno along with lots of debris from the surrounding woods and the rest of the huge black pine I sawed up a couple weeks ago. It took every bit of that wood and then some oak I had stacked for the fire circle fires to burn that 3 tree stump and it smoldered all night as well. The woods were good and wet from the past couple days of a soaking rain so I didn't fear for any fire outbreaks plus the fire was mostly down in the ground where I had dug out and around the roots.
We made fish tacos for supper using wild caught cod processed here in the states. I read the packages of all the fish we eat and now stay away from any fish processed in China or Southeast Asia. That is too bad as we really enjoyed this one fish called Swaii. I learned it is a catfish from Vietnam that is the bottom feeder and is farm raised; from what I learned the farms are deplorable and unsanitary especially those in China. Oh well!! After our supper we drove out to the mailbox on the golf cart then came back and headed out on foot for our daily hike. We saw Joe and Zeke on their evening walk as well.
Well our son in law Tyler has accepted a new job offer in Pinellas County with a large medical firm and with it a raise in salary plus he won't have to travel to Tampa. Both are blessings as they now will look to purchase a home instead of renting. We heard from Bobby and he had a great weekend with the kiddos at his place and they visited with Amy and her kiddos in Seminole. The kiddos were taken to the rec pool(where I play pickle ball) where we now learned Annsley can swim alone in the big pool at their YMCA in Tampa. She always was a water bug.
Well after a hot shower I didn't last long into Megyn's Show on Fox News channel so I took a Sandra Brown book to bed for about 30 minutes before the sandman calleth, LATER.
