Wednesday Morning

Well If I had to choose the weather forever then Tuesday would have been in the top 10. The morning was just perfect with temps in the high 50's to start the day around a 6"ish roll out for me. My better half was catching up on her beauty rest until nearly 8 while I did my post, quiet time and then some FB time. After she awakened we had a semi-mountain breakfast excluding the buckwheat cakes. Maybe I can talk her into that portion this morning(Wed.) minus the sausage, eggs and toast. I of course had a fresh Serrano pepper I brought from my Florida garden to add to the mix, yeow was that ever tasty washed down with a glass of V-8 juice.

I headed out to check on the gardens and flower beds. Nancy has done a magnificent job getting them into shape despite the absence of several perennials from last year. They either died or were eaten off and some bare spots were evident where plants use to be as if they had been dug up and removed, oh well. I decided to give all of the yards a good coat of lime, fertilizer and throw a little grass seed in with the spreader as well. My old spreader has just about wore out from all the use and about half way through it broke down completely so I will finish that job after a trip to Lowes for a new spreader.

I transplanted the last seedlings of Swiss chard I brought with me from Florida. It is a cool weather plant and a bit difficult to grow and I'm sure it will love these cool nights and warm days. Chard is one of the best tasting and easiest to prepare greens. Just take out the middle stem and sautéed it in a little water and butter and that's it. Delicious and so much easier and quicker than collards. Neighbor Gerald came by an assisted me with raising the lower side of the shed as the rains this past winter allowed one side to drop ever so slightly which obstructed my completely opening of the doors where I keep my golf cart and riding mower. That took only a few minutes as he has a heavy duty floor jack.

We ate a lite lunch of peanut butter and banana on a tortilla around 1PM then we headed back out to finish up the flower beds. I finished getting the last of the furniture out of the shed now that the door opens completely and then placed the fire circle benches out as well. We now have the porch rocking chairs out as well as our lunch table so we are just waiting for some company to sit and rock a spell. We decided to head over and visit our "mountain mom" Helen around 3'ish on the golf cart. It was just a beautiful day with a nice breeze and the temps somewhere in the low 70's and no humidity. She was bushed after power washing her deck and driveway so we sat a spell then took a walk out to look at her cute little grow box where she has a few tater plants, tomatoes with fruit hanging, green onions, lettuce and a couple cabbage plants the rabbits are eating.  I will bring some chicken wire to keep those buggers out as well as do a few other small chores later in the week for her.

We decided to just eat salad for supper and then afterwards we headed to the top of the mountain in the golf cart to visit with Joe and Jetta. Seems they were visiting at our place while we were visiting Helen. We had a nice chat with them and petted up Zeke for an hour or more as the sun had set and darkness was starting to set in. We found out that Jetta is quite the natural artist especially with oils, yikes is she ever talented.  Nancy did get a picture from on top with last streaks of lights before total darkness. We came across the mountain and down the back trail and noticed some big changes at the place next to Norm's where he had all of his trees cut down. Wow did that ever change the look of the landscape. Joe said Norm wasn't doing that well with his heart due to the fluid build up and is having trouble actually getting about. He did spend the winter here by himself.

We saw a couple deer as we headed down the mountain and got back just as darkness set in. It was a little chilly as we came through the woods and Nancy mentioned she was glad she had a sweat shirt on. We closed up everything and the clock read nearly 9 o'clock, Yikes where did this day go? Just and FYI our friend Eddie who fell breaking his neck in 3 places under goes surgery this day around 1:30. Keep him and the doctors in your thoughts and prayers for some miraculous healing; right now he can talk and feels a little tingling in his fingers but that all. We are planning on going down to Winston-Salem after church on Sunday to Baptist Hospital and visit with him if the surgery goes well.
