Tuesday started out with temps in the middle 60's with bright sunshine and blue skies and a gentle breeze. It may have reached the high 70's by late afternoon but that was to change overnight as the temp's fell into the lower 50's by Wednesday morning. We had the windows open during the night and Burr inside the cabin when we awakened this AM.
We had a very lite breakfast planned with juice, hot drinks and some Zucchini bread as we were planning to have supper for lunch before our guests left sometime after the noon meal. I had thawed out some sirloin steaks so we wanted to send them off with a good meal. Mike was still battling the poison Ivy he contracted last week while weed whacking his fence row in Woodstock. The stuff seemed to be spreading despite the OTC medicine and a lotions. We learned after they left our place they stopped at an urgent care facility in Galax and he was given a shot plus a prescription for a steroid. The poor guy itched the whole time they were here.
We took a hike to the top of the mountain around 10:30 AM and it was a pleasant hike with Bonnie their Jack Russell sniffing the different smells along the way. We saw no one and shortly after getting back they started to pack for their return trip home. Nancy had sweet taters baking and a pot of 1/2 runner green beans cooking as well as a nice fresh garden salad loaded with some basil, beet greens and some of my red lettuce, sugar peas, nasturtium leaves and flowers and some sweet onions as well as Dee's beautiful tasty maters'. The only thing store bought was the green romaine leaves. I had the grilled fired up for the sirloin's and they were very tasty.
After eating they headed out for home and things sure got quiet around here so we were on the phone with Amy and Helen. Helen was having some trouble with the air pressure in her car tires so we fired up the golf cart and took a ride over to her place. It was just absolutely beautiful outside as we rode the couple miles to her place. We stopped and talked with Ray Todd as he was checking his mail at our mailbox complex on the way. He seemed a little better than when we last saw him a week or so ago.
The ride over was uneventful as we do travel on the hard top for a short distance on the parkway and then on some of the back roads. I checked an aired up all of the tires on her car then dug out an old stump that was causing her trouble where she mows around the shed area. I hand dug a few taters she had planted in her flower beds and then with the bag of beans we bought from my garden she had a meal for the next day. We stayed and visited for an hour or so then headed back to the cabin. It felt good to get out and use my muscles while digging out that stump. Nancy hauled it to the burn pile on the golf cart while I smoothed out the hole. We did our good deed for the day.
We stopped and visited Gerald bringing him his mail after leaving Helen's. We were still rather satisfied after the large lunch so we sat on the back porch and read until nearly 6 PM when we decided on a ham sandwich for supper. I tuned into the FOX News while we ate then headed out after the cleanup to repot some of my lettuce seedling as well as hand water some of the veggie plants that were still thriving. I made a fire in the fire circle(using one match to lite it) and burned a couple days worth of trash until nearly dark. I could feel the temp change in the air.
Well after a shower and a little business work on the Internet it was close to 10:30 so I decided to head to the bed to read before lights out at 11.
