Friday turned out to be an outstanding, beautiful day weather wise. We started the day around 6'ish as the birds were singing outside our bedroom window at day break. Bob and family were heading back to hot, humid and sunny Florida this morning. Nancy put some frozen biscuits in the oven and thawed out some Swaggerty sausage patties. These are the best testing sausage(except for homemade sausage) patties ever.
Annsley woke up around 5'ish with a slight fever and upset tummy. Bob and I ran out to the closest store which was at Roaring Gap(about 10 miles away) for some children's Tylenol and ginger ale drink. That helped a little but she did not want to leave the cabin and go home so that made it worst. Gabe was just the opposite as he was ready for "his house".
After loading up their car and double checking for left behind goodies we said our good-bye's and they headed out around 9:30 for Florida. They had a 700 mile trip ahead of them and it was close to 10PM before we got word they had made it home safely. Thanks to all who remembered them in your thoughts and prayers for safe uneventful travel.
We got busy with laundry, stripping beds, sweeping porches, and just general house cleaning which helped to lessen the sadness of their leaving. Toys needed storing until Amy and her family arrive sometime this Fall for a visit. Butterfly hotels and traps needed to be disassembled and stored as well for Annsley's next visit.
After an hour or so of keeping busy we decided to get our daily hike in to the top of the mountain. We saw no one not even Zeke as his masters were doing their civic duty of delivering "meals on wheels" to the locals. It was a fast hike with no visiting so we came back and had a lunch of some leftovers. Afterwards I loaded up the golf cart with some sacks of pelletized lime and the spreader and headed to the back woods yards. I gave it a good coat of lime to help thwart the spread of moss and green up what grass is growing.
We decided to spend an hour or so reading which we did little of while we had family here. I sat in the swing on the front porch and delighted in the warm breeze and sunshine for an hour or more before we decided it was time to get ready for a trek down to the stockyards in Mt. Airy for the monthly Friday night horse sale. We stopped on the way down at Subway and had supper before continuing on. We were meeting up with some friends from on top of the mountain; Lauren and Roger, Mechelle and Kallie, Eddie and Kimberly and then Katelyn joined us after work as she now works in Mt. Airy. I brought Lauren and Roger the wine berry plants I started from volunteers that seem to spring up everywhere. Well we saw some good horses and burros and some not so good. That place on the inside is stifling with heat and flies and for some reason I'm not a big fan of the place. Maybe it's because some of the animals appear to have been mistreated or malnourished and several of the horse traders sell off the animals for meat which is then shipped overseas.
Well it was close to10 PM when we headed out for the cabin. The drive back up the mountain is a dark one on a 2 lane road with no shoulders or lights. I mean it is dark(can't see the hand in front of you dark) and the deer seem to love to be in and along the road as well. We saw lots of wildlife on the way home. After showers it was lights out after 11, LATER
