Well Thursday was one of those overcast rainy looking days with just a few sprinkles every now and then. We didn't get a whole lot accomplished as we ran to Sparta to the library, bread shop, grocery store and made a stop at our "mountain moms" for a visit. It was going on 4 when we left her place.
The morning started out with usual quiet times after posting this ramble then once again I was not eating healthy as I finished the last piece of carrot cake for breakfast. I knew it wouldn't keep while we were away so I did it in. I will have to sacrifice sweets for a week because of that delicious birthday cake, oh well!! Since it wasn't raining I fired up the golf cart and picked up several loads of moss from the yard depositing it down below into what is usually the dry gully. I'm amazed at how many earthworms I found in the moss as I raked it out of the grass. They just love moss for some reason. I gathered hundreds of them since I've been working in the moss throughout the yards the past couple weeks.
After the yard was cleaned up we got ready and headed out to the top of the mountain for our daily hike. We could barely see off the mountain for the fog and clouds. It was quite humid and warm thus all the fog and rain from the cold front that came into the area the past couple days. We stopped and visited briefly with Joe and Jetta before heading back to the cabin for a bite of lunch for Nancy. The carrot cake still had me feeling satisfied so I skipped lunch. After the cleanup we headed to the 2 stop light town of Sparta.
We picked up several books and I found a new author, Karen Robards who writes with passion. The library had several of her books and Nancy found several books from a new author, Lauraine Snelling. We loaded up then stopped and picked up some fresh baked sourdough and cinnamon bread to take with us to Virginia this weekend. After a nice visit with Helen we headed back to the cabin. I gathered 2 eggs today from the hens next door. I think one was a double yoker as it was quite a bit larger than the other.
I had a couple marinated deer tenderloins ready for the grille and along with some white rice and salad we had a sumptuous supper. After the cleanup we vegetated on the couch watching Fox News until the Little World Series games started. We watched those youngsters until it was time to get ready for bed as one game was being played on the west coast. Well that was about it for this day as we get ready to head out for a long week end visit with family and friends in northern Virginia, LATER ..Nancy had her camera out once again the past couple days as I raked moss in the lite rain.
