Thursday

We have had 10 plus inches of rain this week and I haven't check the gauge for what fell last night, Yikes that is rare for this time of the year and yet the West is burning up, literally due to the lack of rain. I headed out to walk the yard whenever the rain let which was usually for about 10 minutes at a time throughout the day. I think the sun did appear for a moment in late afternoon but wow are we saturated, anyhow we are lucky when I saw on the news the panhandle of Florida had 20 inches in one day, yikes that really caused some severe flooding and damage.

We started the day with sleeping in until nearly 7:30 after the late travel night from Charlotte. We were hoping to eventually meet up with Arianne and Errol some time during the day at the Shelton Winery near the town of Dobson but due to his 3 AM flight into Charlotte and their lack of sleeping they decided to skip that adventure until another day. They finally made it here to the cabin a little after 7 PM as the traffic crashes and weather conditions made for hazardous traveling on I-77 and then again  up the mountain. Anyhow everyone made it here safely before dark so we are thankful.

The evening began with a late supper of sirloin steaks grilled to perfection and I'm thrilled with this mid-western meat com. that ships anywhere and it's comes from a ribbon gift through Amway. This month it's buy one ribbon gift and you get a second one free so the cost of this meat is half price. I'm stocking up on these and if you want to also let me know as once you purchase the gift you can order your meat anytime and its shipped free to you as well. Anyhow the meat was so tender you could cut it with your fork. We also had parsley taters, broccoli and a fresh salad with some nasturtium's on top. Nancy made brownies for dessert and then we just chilled watching the Macy's celebration on the tube until it was over then I hit the showers and finally the sack. The rain poured so hard during the night I thought the roof was coming off.

Well we have sure been inundated with rain and as much as I love it for what it does to the gardens and yards I'm just starting to get a little sick of the constant down pours that keep you inside. We have not been out for a walk since last Sunday and except for the trip to Charlotte we haven't really been out of the cabin and our guests are getting cabin fever. The small seedlings in the garden have washed away and the slugs have taken over eating the cabbage and potato plants. The beans and cukes are holding on but barely as is the tomato plants, oh well, LATER
